Student answer (Band 5.5)

Over the past few years, majority of individual's dressing sence is more motivated by following the global fashion trends. This is due to more influence of digital media to people's perception regarding fashion and the gromming of threir self esteem. And I personally believe that is a very healthly step.

One major reason to this trend is that the world is now a global village and social media plays a very pivotal role in it. The fashion changes every few months and there is perception that if individuals are not following that trends, then they belongs to a different society. In this way people pays much attention to follow latest trends. For instance, skinny jean were considered to very trendy few years back, but now a days the market has shifted to loose or straight fit clothes. Having said that, a majory of the society is now shifted to be self groomed. They not only afraid of to be seen as old fashioned but also wants appriciation from the society regarding their fashion sense. By experiencing different fashion trends aound the world, builds a confidance as well as develop a positive image inside them that skyrocket their confidence.

According to my perspective, I strongly belive that this has a very optimistic development because it is very benifical for cross cultural trends. People in different countries promotes their native fashion so that this creats an interesting influence in that society. Moreover, adjusting ourselves with the time would definitly helps us to live a decent and enjoyable life.

Concluding my thoughts, digital media has changed the overall image of fashion. People now can stay up to date regarding new trends and can adopt them to be confident and this is a very healthly developement.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain the influence of social media and global connectivity, and you clearly state that you see the development as positive. The example contrasting skinny jeans with looser fits helps illustrate how trends change. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that people follow trends because otherwise they may seem to belong to a different society needs clearer reasoning, and the benefits of cross-cultural fashion are not supported with a specific example. The discussion of self-esteem is relevant, but its link to global trends could be developed more carefully. Extending these ideas and explaining how the examples support your position would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining the influence, a paragraph giving your opinion, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from social media and changing trends to confidence and cultural exchange. You also use linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Having said that,” and “Moreover.” At times, however, the connections between ideas are not fully clear. The shift from changing clothing styles to society’s desire for appreciation, for example, needs a more explicit link, and “Having said that” suggests a contrast that is not clearly established. Some references, such as “that” in the final paragraph, are also broad. Use transitions that accurately show the relationship between points and make each paragraph’s central idea more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “global village,” “pivotal role,” “self-esteem,” “cross-cultural,” and “up to date,” which helps communicate the topic and your viewpoint. There are also attempts at more expressive phrasing, such as “skyrocket their confidence.” However, spelling errors are frequent enough to detract from the overall control, including “sence,” “gromming,” “appriciation,” and “confidance.” Some word combinations are also unnatural, such as “a very healthy step” and “the grooming of their self esteem.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, and choose precise expressions rather than relying on broad phrases such as “a positive image inside them.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “because” and “so that,” and the main ideas are usually understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “they belongs” should be “they belong,” while “people pays” should be “people pay.” The sentence beginning “By experiencing different fashion trends around the world, builds…” lacks a clear subject, and “adjusting ourselves with the time would definitely helps” combines incompatible verb forms. These issues sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and ensuring each sentence has a complete, correctly structured main clause.
