Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, the effect of popular fashion trends is reflected in multiple ways in the clothing patterns of individuals. It has developed such a powerfull effect due to social media, that people do not want to feel left behind. I think it has a negative effect in the overall development of their daily lives.

Global fashion has had a huge impact on people living standards due to social media. When they see an influencer or a close friend they create a perception that this is the way to live in today's world, and in order to achieve that they follow those trends. For example, in the past few months many celebrities have been seen wearing Air jordan shoes by Nike, so many normal people were also influenced in buying those shoes too.

I think it is a negative development. Because just to meet those standards, people spent a huge amount of money on recent trends. Normally, a style only lasts a few months so after that they are forced to change their entire wardrobe, just to meet the new upcoming trend. For example, in past few month baggy jeans became really popular so a lot of people bought those jeans. But after just a few months they became outdated and once agin slim fit jeans became fashion so now they have to buy those jeans again just to be in line with lastest fashion.

In conclusion, the impact of popular fashion trends has been reflected in many ways of people's lives. The effect has been mainky due to social media, and i think it has been a negative development in their lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the prompt: social media is identified as a major influence, and your position that this is negative is clear in the introduction and conclusion. The examples of Air Jordan shoes and changing jeans styles make the discussion relevant and help explain how trends spread and encourage spending. However, the explanation of how global fashion became influential is narrower than the question invites: social media is the only main cause discussed, and the role of advertising, celebrities, or international brands could also be explored. The negative effects are more developed, but the claims about people replacing wardrobes and trends becoming outdated would benefit from fuller explanation or a specific consequence. Develop each main idea with clearer reasoning and support to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on the influence and its negative effects, and a conclusion. The progression from social media exposure to purchasing behaviour is understandable, and examples are placed alongside the points they support. Some connections are mechanical or unclear, however. The second paragraph begins, “I think it is a negative development. Because…,” leaving “Because” as an incomplete sentence rather than linking the reason smoothly. Repeated references to “those trends” and “those jeans” also make some links less precise, while the conclusion largely repeats the introduction. Use a wider range of linking structures and make references explicit; for example, connect the spending point directly to the short life cycle of fashion trends.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “global fashion,” “influencer,” “outdated,” “wardrobe,” and “fashion trends,” so the main ideas are generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “meet those standards.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “people living standards,” “clothing patterns,” and “the effect has been mainky due to social media.” Spelling errors such as “powerfull,” “agin,” and “lastest” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully. A broader range of precise terms for the mechanisms and consequences of fashion influence would help you express ideas with greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and some longer structures, including the conditional-style explanation “in order to achieve that they follow those trends” and the time clause “after just a few months.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “Because just to meet those standards…” is a sentence fragment, and “people spent a huge amount” does not maintain the present-time framing of the paragraph. The sentence beginning “When they see an influencer…” also needs clearer punctuation and a more controlled connection between its clauses. There are some errors with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “in past few month.” Practise combining clauses accurately and proofreading verb forms, articles, and punctuation.
