Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, global fashion trends have a strong influence on the way people dress. Due to social media, celebrities and international brands, people can easily follow the latest fashion trends. In my opinion, this development has both positive and negative effects, but I believe its negative effects are greater when people blindly follow fashion.
There are several reasons why global fashion has become so popular. Firstly, social media platforms such as Instagram, Tiktok and Facebook allow people to see the different styles globally. Secondly, celebrities and influencers encourage people to buy fashionable clothes. As a result, young people are especially interested in following international fashion trends.
On the positive side, global fashion helps people express their personalities and improve their confidence. People can learn about different cultures through clothing and try new styles. For instance, many young people in Pakistan wear international brands and combine modern fashion with traditional clothes, such as Shalwar Kameez. This creates a unique style and express themselves.
However, there are also some disadvantages. One major problem is that people spend a large amount of money on expensive clothes to follow the latest trends. This can create financial pressure, especially for students. Furthermore, some people feel less confident about their appearance if they cannot afford expensive clothes. Another concern is that fast fashion produces a large amount of waste, which harms the environment.
In conclusion, global fashion trends have become successful in every field of lif

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you explain the influence of social media, celebrities and brands, and give a balanced view before stating that the negative effects are greater when people follow trends blindly. The examples about Pakistani clothing and students’ spending make the discussion relevant. However, the explanation of how global fashion became influential is brief, and some effects are asserted rather than developed—for example, the link between fashion and confidence could be explained further. The conclusion is also incomplete, ending at “every field of lif” without restating your judgement. The response is 11 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your ideas. Extend the explanation and finish with a clear summary of your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining the causes, separate paragraphs for benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. Sequencing is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “On the positive side,” and “However” help readers track the argument. Cohesion is sometimes mechanical, though, because several points are introduced in a list-like way rather than linked through explanation. The final paragraph is incomplete, so the essay does not reach a fully rounded ending. Also, “This creates a unique style and express themselves” has an unclear reference: it is not immediately clear who “themselves” refers to. Develop links between claims and examples, and ensure the conclusion is complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “global fashion trends,” “international brands,” “financial pressure,” and “fast fashion.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and phrases such as “blindly follow fashion” convey your position effectively. There are also some imprecise or repetitive expressions: “fashionable clothes” and “latest fashion trends” recur, while “successful in every field of lif” is not a natural way to describe fashion’s reach and is cut off. “Different styles globally” is understandable but could be expressed more precisely. Aim for more varied collocations and accurate word forms, while keeping your language natural. For example, describe trends as “widely adopted” and discuss their “environmental impact.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional clause in “if they cannot afford expensive clothes” and a relative clause in “which harms the environment.” Most sentences are clear, and errors do not generally prevent understanding. Some grammatical slips remain. In “This creates a unique style and express themselves,” the verbs do not agree in form; use “creates … and allows them to express themselves.” The final sentence is incomplete, ending with “lif,” so it lacks a complete grammatical structure. Continue checking agreement and sentence completion, and use a wider range of complex structures with accurate control.
