Student answer (Band 7.0)

In recent years, global fashion trends have increasingly influenced the way people dress. This influence has spread worldwide through social media, celebritie and international clothing brands, encouraging many people, particularly young adults, to follow the latest styles. I believe this is a positive development overall because it allow people to express their individuallity and learn about different cultures, although it can also encourage unnecessary spending.

One of the main reasons global fashion trends has become so influence is the widespread use of social media and celebrity culutre. Platforms such as Instagram and TikTok allow people to see the latest clothing style worn by celebrities and influencers from different countries. As a result, these styles can spread repidly across the world, encouraging people to purchase similar outfits to keep up with current trends. For example, many young people in india follow Korean fashion trends adter watching drams or seeing K-pop artists online. Furthermore, international clothing brands and online shopping platforms make it easier for consumers to buy fashionable items without visiting physical stores. Therefore, social media and global marketing have made fashion trends more accessible and influntial in people's daily lives.

I believe this development is largely positive because it allows people to express their individuality and learn about different cultures. By exploring international fashion trends, individuals can experiment with different colours, designs and styles instead of following only traditional clothing choices. This can help them develop their personal style and feel more confident about their appearance. For instance, young people may combine traditional Indian garments with modern Western designs to create outfits that reflect both their cultural background and personal preferences. However, following every new trend can lead to unnecessary spending and pressure to look fashionable. Despite this drawback, I believe global fashion has more advantages than disadvantages when people make sensible clothing choices.

In conclusion, global fashion has become increasingly influential due to social media, celebrity culture and international brands. Although following the latest trends can encourage unnecessary spending, I believe this is a positive development overall because it allows people to express their individuality and explore different cultures.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response addresses both parts of the question: it explains how social media, celebrity culture, international brands and online shopping spread trends, and it gives a clear positive view while acknowledging overspending as a drawback. The position remains consistent, and examples such as young people in India following Korean fashion and combining Indian garments with Western designs help support the ideas. This fits a strong response in which the main points are extended and illustrated. To make the discussion more fully developed, explain in greater depth why these influences have become so powerful—for example, how targeted advertising or the speed of online sharing shapes purchasing decisions. The point about cultural learning could also be explored beyond the example of clothing choices.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

The essay is clearly organised into an introduction, a paragraph explaining the causes, a paragraph evaluating the development, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “As a result,” “Furthermore,” “However,” and “In conclusion” generally guide the reader effectively. The central position is also maintained across the response. Some connections are a little formulaic, particularly the repeated use of explicit transitions to signal each step. The opening paragraph also moves quickly from the causes to the writer’s opinion, while the body paragraphs could make the relationship between each supporting example and its main point more explicit. More varied referencing and smoother links between sentences would make the cohesion less noticeable and more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

The response has adequate range for the topic and uses relevant expressions such as “celebrity culture,” “international clothing brands,” “personal style,” and “cultural background.” These choices communicate the argument clearly, and phrases such as “unnecessary spending” and “fashionable items” are appropriate. However, several spelling errors—“celebritie,” “individuallity,” “culutre,” “repidly,” and “influntial”—reduce accuracy and make the vocabulary less controlled. There are also some imprecise or awkward combinations, including “clothing style worn” and “so influence.” This places the vocabulary at a level where meaning remains clear but errors are noticeable. Proofreading spelling and choosing more precise collocations would help demonstrate greater flexibility and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0

You use a useful mix of simple and complex structures, including subordinate clauses (“because it allows people…”) and a concession (“although it can also encourage…”). Many sentences are accurate and easy to understand, such as the explanation of how social platforms spread styles and the example of combining traditional and modern clothing. A few grammatical errors remain: “this influence has spread worldwide through social media, celebritie…” contains a word-form issue, while “global fashion trends has become” and “it allow people” show subject–verb agreement problems. There are also punctuation slips, such as the missing space after the full stop in “dress.This.” The range is promising, but careful editing for agreement and sentence boundaries would make control more consistent.
