Many aspects of the way people dress today are influenced by global fashion trends.

How has global fashion become such a strong influence on people's lives? Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 4.5)

A lot of people have the choice to wear a dress that can inspire the global trend. The global trend has a strong impact on the lives of people. In this essay, we will discuss both of the points and explain why the global trend has importance the daily lives of people.

On the one hand, some countries in urban areas do not like the global trend because they believe it can promote their culture. For example, in Saudi Arabia, shalwar kameez is very popular, and most people can buy new dresses for special events. China is the most famous country in the world; it can promote its tradition and culture all over the world, and they can not share their secrets with other people. The most famous example of Chinese people, they can travel to other countries; they can also take their toilet with them. Therefore, the reason is that other countries cannot find the secret of their success in their waste. They have their own dresses, which cannot be found in other countries, and their traditional food is white rice and noodles.

On the other hand, some countries can pursue global fashion because they feel very comfortable wearing it. It can have a positive attitude towards students because they can wear it and feel very comfortable while doing work. For example, the fashion of baggy trousers and shirts is very popular among the young generation.

In my opinion, you can promote their culture is a good habit; in this way, you can show the memories of older people.

In conclusion, some countries can promote their old traditions, and others cannot change with the time. But global fashion has a great impact on lives because people can wear those dresses, which can make their lives easier.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response makes an attempt to discuss both the influence of global fashion and whether it is positive or negative, and it gives a clear personal view that preserving culture is valuable. However, the task is addressed only minimally: it does not explain convincingly how global fashion became influential, and the examples about Chinese travel, toilets, and food are largely unrelated to fashion. The point about comfortable clothing and baggy trousers is relevant, but it is not developed with a clear explanation or supporting detail. The conclusion also gives mixed signals, saying global fashion makes life easier while favouring cultural preservation. To improve, explain specific drivers such as social media, celebrities, and international brands, then support a consistent judgement with relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The essay has an introduction, two body paragraphs, an opinion, and a conclusion, and signposts such as “On the one hand” and “In conclusion” show an attempt to organise the response. However, ideas are not arranged coherently within this structure. The first body paragraph moves from Saudi clothing to Chinese culture, travel, toilets, and food without showing how these points connect to global fashion. The opinion paragraph is very brief and does not clearly link to the preceding discussion, while the conclusion introduces the idea that fashion makes life easier without establishing it earlier. Use each paragraph to develop one central point, and connect examples explicitly to that point rather than relying mainly on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on “global trend,” “people,” “countries,” and “dress/dresses.” Some topic-related language appears, including “traditional food,” “baggy trousers,” and “young generation,” so the reader can identify the general subject. However, several choices are unclear or imprecise, such as “promote their culture” where the intended meaning seems to be preserving or showcasing it, and “take their toilet with them,” which makes the example difficult to interpret. “The memories of older people” is also an unclear way to express the value of cultural heritage. Build a more precise range for discussing fashion and its causes, and check that each phrase communicates the intended meaning naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response uses mostly simple sentence patterns, alongside some attempts at longer clauses with “because,” “which,” and “while.” Several sentences communicate a basic idea, for example, “the fashion of baggy trousers and shirts is very popular among the young generation.” However, control becomes unreliable in longer constructions. In “In my opinion, you can promote their culture is a good habit,” the clause structure is incomplete, and “The most famous example of Chinese people, they can travel…” is a sentence fragment followed by an unclear construction. There are also problems with agreement and reference in “China … and they can not share their secrets.” Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use shorter, controlled structures when expressing complex ideas.
