Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, people prefer to wear clothes which are influenced by global fashion trends. This is mainly because of the internet and I believe it is a negative development because it can affect people's mental health.

Nowadays, People across the globe are spending most of their time while scrolling reels, and watching diffrent contents on the internet. In their day to day life they are conected with the applications such as Instagram and Youtube, where they are watching various contents in which creators and actors from different countries wearning fashionable clothes which is followed by global fashion trends. Consequently, people and other influencers around the globe prefer to try those fashionable clothes on them, and in their videos. As a result, it is becoming a fashion trend throughout the global.

However, because of this development many people are fashing detrimental affects on their mental health. The main reason behind their mental illness is that they are continuously judging themselves with other people's clothing style and looks on the internet. Therefore, they are more depressed and anxious regarding their health than they were in the past which is affecting their mental health, and their daily lives. Consequently, they are lacking self-confidence at public places, and living their lives with more and more mental burdens.

To conclude, although because of the internet people are connected with each others in terms of global fashion trends, I belive it is becoming a major mental health problem in their lives and affecting their self-confidence and their daily lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain the internet’s role in spreading fashion and clearly state that you see this as negative because of its effects on mental health. The examples of Instagram, YouTube, creators and actors make the proposed influence relevant. Your explanation of comparison, anxiety and reduced confidence also gives a reason for your position. However, the causes are not explored in equal depth: the account focuses mainly on social media exposure and says little about why these trends become widely adopted, such as advertising, celebrity culture or fast fashion. Some effects are asserted rather than illustrated, so a specific example would make the argument more convincing and fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining how trends spread, a paragraph on their negative effects, and a conclusion that restates your view. Linking expressions such as “Consequently,” “As a result” and “To conclude” help show the relationship between ideas. At times, however, these transitions feel repetitive or mechanical, and several sentences in the first body paragraph repeat the idea that people see and copy fashionable clothing online. The reference in “this development” is understandable, but the progression from exposure to adoption could be made more explicit. Organise each paragraph around a distinct point and use a wider range of referencing and linking rather than repeatedly signalling cause and effect.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “global fashion trends,” “fashionable clothes,” “mental health,” “depressed,” “anxious” and “self-confidence.” This is enough to communicate your main ideas, but the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which occasionally makes the meaning less natural. For example, “fashing detrimental affects” appears to mean “facing detrimental effects,” while “throughout the global” would be more naturally expressed as “globally” or “around the world.” There are also spelling errors such as “diffrent,” “conected,” “wearning” and “belive.” Aim to use precise topic vocabulary and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including a relative clause in “clothes which are influenced by global fashion trends” and a subordinate clause beginning “although.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “people across the globe are spending most of their time while scrolling” has an awkward clause pattern, and “they are more depressed and anxious … than they were in the past” needs clearer grammatical framing. In the conclusion, “although because of the internet” combines two structures incorrectly, and “connected with each others” has an agreement/form problem. Practise building complex sentences with one clear clause pattern, and check articles, agreement and sentence punctuation.
