Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent decades, global fashion has greatly influenced people's fashion sense and it is becoming very common. It is because of social media. From my perspective, it is a positive change becuase it ensures cultural diversity and exchange. This essay will examine the reason of this development before explaining my opinion.

One of the major reasons for this change is that other countries' fashion is now easily accessible due to the social media platforms. This can be explained by that individuals are getting the knowledge of fashion trends from all over the world. Furthermore, nowadays, everybody is on the phone, scrolling through the several applications through which people are getting influenced by numerous trends they watch on social media. For instance, instagram and tiktok allows its users to watch their favourite celebrities, wearing stylish clothes. Consequently, fans get inspired by them and want to copy their fashion sense.

In my opinion, there are many positive aspects of this advancement, such as cultural diversity and exchange. It is because youngsters are watching a variety of trends on their cellphones, it allows them to watch others' culture. Moreover, fashion designers can get information about other countries national dresses and use them to create a combination of numerous syles. To ilustrate this, saree is a national dress of india, but now, a wide range of people know about it across the world and styling it in several ways possible. Consequently, this development allows cultural exchange and diversity in fashion.

To conclude, platforms like instagram and tiktok have changed the people's perspective about fashion. I believe it is a positive change as it provides the insights into a variety of cultures and use them to create a new trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the prompt: social media is identified as the main reason global fashion spreads, and you clearly state that you see this as positive because it encourages cultural exchange. The examples of celebrities influencing fans and the saree becoming known internationally are relevant. However, the explanation of how this influence became strong is quite narrow, focusing almost entirely on social media, and the positive effects are asserted more than fully explored. For example, the point about designers combining styles could be developed with a specific explanation of how this benefits people or fashion. To strengthen the response, extend each main idea with clearer cause-and-effect reasoning and consider whether other factors, such as international brands or online shopping, also contribute.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining the influence of social media, a paragraph supporting your positive view, and a conclusion. The main points generally follow a logical order, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “For instance,” and “Consequently” help show relationships between ideas. At times, however, cohesion feels mechanical because several sentences rely on similar cause-and-effect links. Some references are also unclear: “it allows them to watch others’ culture” does not clearly identify what “it” refers to, and the final sentence’s “them” has no precise antecedent. Use more varied transitions and make pronoun references explicit to improve the flow between claims and examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “global fashion,” “fashion trends,” “cultural diversity,” “national dresses,” and “fashion designers.” These choices make the subject clear, and phrases such as “cultural exchange” suit the argument. However, several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, including repeated use of “fashion” and “change,” and “getting the knowledge of fashion trends” is not a natural collocation. There are also spelling and form errors, such as “becuase,” “syles,” and “ilustrate,” as well as inconsistent capitalisation of “Instagram,” “TikTok,” and “India.” Aim for more precise collocations and proofread spelling and proper nouns; this will make your vocabulary more controlled and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses beginning with “because” and “which,” and most of your meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors occur, particularly with agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “instagram and tiktok allows” needs a plural verb, while “the several applications” uses an unnecessary article. The sentence “It is because youngsters are watching a variety of trends on their cellphones, it allows them…” joins two clauses incorrectly; recast it as one clear sentence or use a conjunction. In the conclusion, “it provides the insights … and use them” has an unclear subject and mismatched structure. Practise checking agreement and ensuring each clause has a clear grammatical connection.
