Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadys, the way people dressing is strongly influenced by global fashion trends. This is mainly because of social media, celebrities and online shoping. Athrough this trend has some advantages that we will talk in upcoming body paragraph, i believe it is a negitive development overall.

There are several reasons why global fashion has become so popular. Firstly social media platforms such as Instagram and Tiktok allow people to se the latest clothing styles from diffrent countries. Secondly, many young peope follow famous actors, singers and influencers and try to copy their dressing styles. For example in India, many youngsters buy clothes similar to those worn by thier favourite Bollywood actors. Moreover, online shopping makes it easier to buy fashionable clothes from international brands. As a result, fashion trends spread around the world very quickly.

In my opinion, global fashion has more negitive effects than positive ones. one major problems is that people often spend to much money on expensive clothes just to look fashionable. This can create financial problems, especially for young people. Another disadvantage is that people may feel pressure to follow thr latest trends instead of choosing clothes according to thier own prefrences. Furthermore, traditional clothing may become less poplular because people prefer modern styles. For instance, some young Indians prefer Western clothes to traditional outfits such as salwar kameez. However, global fashion also has benefits because it gives people more choices and allow them to expres their personalties.

In conclusion, global fashion has become popular because of social media, celebrities and online shopping. Althrough it offers more choices, I believe it is a negitive development overall because it encourages unnecessary spending and may reduce the importance of traditional clothings.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the question: it explains how social media, celebrities and online shopping spread fashion, and gives a clear negative overall judgement while acknowledging benefits. The examples about Bollywood clothing and traditional Indian dress make the discussion relevant, and the conclusion restates the main position. Reasons are extended with consequences, such as spending causing financial problems and trend pressure weakening personal choice. To strengthen the response further, develop the explanation of how these influences operate—for example, how repeated exposure or targeted online advertising encourages purchases—and make the positive side more than a brief concession. Overall, the task is covered clearly and supported, though some points remain general rather than fully explored.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear four-paragraph structure, with an introduction, an explanation of fashion’s influence, a discussion of its effects, and a conclusion. Ideas progress logically, and linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” “As a result,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. The examples are placed alongside the points they support, and the overall position remains consistent. Some transitions are a little formulaic, and the shift from the negative effects to the benefits in the third paragraph could be signposted more smoothly. For stronger cohesion, use a wider range of referencing and linking, and connect the concession more explicitly to the overall judgement rather than presenting it as an abrupt final point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas, with relevant terms such as “global fashion trends,” “influencers,” “financial problems,” and “traditional clothing.” However, the range is limited and several spelling errors are noticeable, including “Nowadys,” “shoping,” “diffrent,” and “negitive.” Some expressions are imprecise or awkward, such as “copy their dressing styles” and “traditional clothings.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy and polish. Build a more varied set of topic-specific expressions and check spelling carefully. More natural collocations, such as “imitate their style” or “follow the latest trends,” would make the discussion sound more fluent and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response uses both simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “because people prefer modern styles” and a result clause beginning “As a result.” Most ideas remain understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors occur in basic structures as well as longer sentences. For example, “the way people dressing” needs a finite verb form, “one major problems is” has an agreement error, and “allow them” should agree with the singular subject “it.” There are also missing spaces after punctuation and inconsistent capitalisation at sentence beginnings. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, verb forms and sentence punctuation, then proofread each sentence while retaining the useful variety of structures already attempted.
