Student answer (Band 6.0)
These days, many aspects of the way people dress are influenced by global fashion trends. In this essay, I will discuss how global fashion has become such a strong influence on people's lives. From my perspective, this is a negative development because it affects a person's own identity, culture and traditional values.
People's dressing is strongly influenced by global fashion due to the wide use of social media, especially apps like Instagram and TikTok, where trends are followed by people around the world. For instance, among Gen Z, baggy clothes fashion was common; different influencers wore them in their reels while doing the trending dance steps. Additionally, some apps like Shein and Temu sell their products at low prices and make them readily available for people from all over the world
These global trends strongly influence people's lives in many ways; the life everyone shows on social media is different from reality, but still, some people believe and compare their lives with it. The global fashion trends are not always cheap and easily accessible so some people cannot afford to buy them, which can lead to an inferiority complex.
Furthermore, while people are busy being part of the trend, they leave behind their own culture and traditions, which give rise to arguments among people living in a society where some people, mainly the younger generation, are prioritising global fashion trends, and their elders are against it.
To conclude the essay, as people's access to products is now easy due to some apps that provide worldwide delivery with cheap prices, these global fashion trends are followed by people that is changing the country's own culture and norms, and leads to disagreements in society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the prompt: you explain the influence of social media and low-cost online retailers, and you clearly judge the development negatively because of its effects on identity, culture and social relationships. The examples of Instagram, TikTok, Shein and Temu make the explanation relevant. However, some points are asserted more than developed. For example, the link between following trends and losing cultural values would be stronger with a specific illustration, and the claim that fashion trends cause an “inferiority complex” needs clearer explanation. Your position is clear, but the discussion of how global fashion became influential could be extended beyond online exposure and availability by explaining how these factors shape purchasing or everyday choices.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, paragraphs on the causes and effects, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from social-media exposure and product access to personal and cultural consequences. You also use linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Furthermore” and “To conclude.” At times, however, connections are mechanical or the relationship between ideas is not fully clear. The paragraph beginning “These global trends strongly influence people's lives” moves from social-media comparison to affordability without a clear transition, and the long sentence about younger people and elders is difficult to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and divide complex points into shorter units; make references such as “them” and “it” unmistakably refer to the intended idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “global fashion trends,” “readily available,” “inferiority complex,” and “traditional values.” These choices help communicate your main ideas, and the examples are specific. There are also some awkward or imprecise expressions that limit naturalness, such as “People's dressing,” “baggy clothes fashion,” and “with cheap prices.” “The life everyone shows on social media” is understandable but could be expressed more precisely as an idealised online image. Aim for more accurate collocations and avoid repeating “global fashion trends” where a clear alternative such as “these styles” would work. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish influence, imitation and cultural change.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “while” and “which,” and the main message remains clear. Some grammatical errors and awkward sentence construction persist. For example, “baggy clothes fashion was common” has an unclear structure, while “these global fashion trends are followed by people that is changing” contains faulty agreement and an unclear relative clause. The final sentence also combines several ideas in a way that makes the relationships difficult to track. Work on subject–verb agreement, clause boundaries and sentence punctuation, especially when joining multiple consequences. Breaking the longest sentences into two and checking that each verb agrees with its subject would improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at complex structures.
