Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, global fashion trends have become increasingly popular and have great influenced the way people dress. This is mainly due to the development of the social media, the influence of celebrities, and growth of international brands. I believe that this is a largely positive development, although it also have a disadvantages.

There are several reasons why global fashion has become so influential in peoples lives. Firstly, the social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Tiktok allow people to learn about the latest fashion trends from different parts of the world. Secondly, celebrities and fashion influencers encourage their followers to wear similar clothes like Zara, Adidas, Nike have a fashionable clothing easily available in many countries. Online shopping has also made it easier for people to purchase trendy outfits. Consequently, people are increasingly adopting fashion styles in their daily lives

In my opinion, global fashion is generally a positive development because it gives people more oppurtunities to express their personality. Furthermore, it permotes culural exchange by introducing people to different clothing styles and traditions. For example, young people can combine traditional clothing with westren clothes simply to follow latest trends. Moreover, there are some disadvantages. People may spend to much money on expensive clothes simply to follow the new trends . Moreover, the popularity of International fashion may reduce peoples interest in traditional clothes.

In conclusion, global fashion has become a powerful increase influence of social media celebrities and international clothing brands. Although it can encourage excessive spending and weaken traditional clothing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both parts of the question: you identify social media, celebrities, international brands and online shopping as causes, and you state that global fashion is largely positive while acknowledging drawbacks. The reasons are relevant, but several are only briefly explained. For instance, you mention that social media lets people learn about trends, but do not show in detail how this exposure changes everyday choices. Your example of combining traditional and Western clothing is useful, though it could be developed to demonstrate cultural exchange more clearly. The conclusion also becomes incomplete: it names the influences and a disadvantage but does not restate your overall judgement. Develop each main point with a clear explanation or example and finish with a complete summary of your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph explaining causes, a paragraph discussing benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. However, some connections are unclear: the sentence beginning “Secondly” shifts from celebrities and influencers to brands without explaining their relationship, and the conclusion ends as a fragment rather than completing the argument. “Moreover” is also used twice in the same paragraph for different points. Make the links between ideas explicit, use referencing where appropriate, and ensure each paragraph and the conclusion form complete, logically connected units.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “global fashion trends,” “fashion influencers,” “express their personality,” and “cultural exchange.” These choices show an adequate range and help communicate the main ideas. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “oppurtunities,” “permotes,” “culural,” and “westren.” Some phrases are also awkward or unclear, such as “have great influenced” and “a powerful increase influence.” The list of brands in “wear similar clothes like Zara, Adidas, Nike” does not express the intended relationship naturally. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for discussing influence, availability and consumer behaviour; this will make your ideas clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including a contrast clause with “although” and a reason clause beginning “because.” Most of the main points remain understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, possessives and sentence completion are present. For example, “it also have a disadvantages” has problems with subject–verb agreement and singular/plural form, while “the development of the social media” uses an unnecessary article. The final sentence, “Although it can encourage excessive spending and weaken traditional clothing,” is a dependent clause without a main clause, leaving the conclusion unfinished. Practise checking each sentence for a complete independent clause, then review agreement and article use. Greater control of these patterns would improve accuracy.
