Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays the way individuals dress is fairly influenced by global fashion trends. beacuse of availabilty of social media and internet, i personally believe this development has both positive and negative effects.

On the one hand, Modern fashion is influenced by celebrities and famous individuals to keep up with future and current trends people often try to copy them and vast majority falls into this category. overall majority are gen z so to keep up with fashion children in schools and universities some students introduces new trends and others replicate their clothing because of fear of missing out, this can be positive because individuals can try something new and new inventions can occur in fashion world. For example learners from many united states universities started wearing baggy jeans later on it became major world-wide trend and brands started creating different types of jeans resulted in major growth.

On the other hand, Some masses does not like to keep up with majot trends so they try to avoid fashion changes but they often get bullied by other individuals specially in learning environment often children who wear old fashioned clothing like jeans etc, Also fashion is a personal thing plenty of individuals hate baggy jeans and others might love them so social media and global trends often overshadows vintage and old school clothing even brands stops production of other type of product, for instance when baggy jeans became famous shop owners stopped selling normal pants and even companies ceased them for certain years but as trend declined formation and selling of normal jeans started.

In conclusion, modern fashion being influenced by major trends can help in innovation and modernity and comapnies can see major economic boom and fan following of 1 major trend can often lead to bullying in schools and university who avoid new fashion trends.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you identify social media and the internet as influences, and present both benefits and drawbacks. Your examples about students adopting baggy jeans and companies responding to demand help make the discussion relevant. However, the explanation of how global fashion became influential is brief; celebrity influence is mentioned, but the role of online platforms in spreading trends is not developed. The positive effects are also less fully explained than the negative effects, and the conclusion mainly repeats earlier points. To strengthen the response, explain the mechanisms more clearly—for example, how influencers, advertising and rapid online sharing expose people to trends—and develop each effect with a specific, clearly explained example. Your position that the development has both positive and negative effects is understandable, but its overall evaluation could be more decisive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for contrasting effects, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the main direction easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, several ideas are crowded together, particularly in the second body paragraph, where peer pressure, bullying, personal preference and the availability of clothing are linked in one long sequence. Some connections are also unclear: the shift from students copying trends to “new inventions” needs an explicit explanation. Use shorter sentences and organise each paragraph around one main point, followed by explanation and an example. More precise referencing and linking would make the progression smoother and reduce the reliance on broad contrast markers.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “global fashion trends,” “fear of missing out,” “vintage,” “bullying” and “economic boom.” These choices show an ability to discuss fashion and its social effects, although some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “keep up with future and current trends,” “major world-wide trend” and “fan following of 1 major trend.” Spelling errors, including “availabilty,” “majot” and “comapnies,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and avoid vague terms such as “masses” when referring to people. For instance, describe trends as “spreading rapidly online” and say that companies “expand production” in response to demand. Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your vocabulary more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “so” and “when,” and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, some sentences contain several clauses joined without clear punctuation, as in the sentence beginning “overall majority are gen z,” which makes the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. There are also errors in agreement and sentence structure, such as “Some masses does not like” and “some students introduces,” as well as inconsistent capitalisation after full stops. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea and a clearly controlled subordinate clause. Check subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation when editing; for example, use “some students introduce” and separate the ideas about students, trends and clothing into distinct sentences.
