Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, many people argue that the dressing sense of people is inspired by the worldwide fashion trends. I stongly believe that this is a negative development because it waste money of poor people.

The first major reason behind the global fashion influence on the lives of people is advertisement. Television is now common in every house and everyone uses social media platforms where they see many ads in which celeberities are promoting different brands and wearing different fashionable lothes and shoes. For example, the ads displayed on different apps and websites attract most of the people.

There are some advantages of this development such as people becomes aware of the trend used. As people did want to be called old fashioned. They also buy the latest designs of cloth and foot wearings. Consequently, they become confident about their wearing. For instance, people wearing good clothes did not feel embaracement or shyness while sitting in a group of people.

However, this development has also some disadvantages as not everyone can afford luxury and expensive brands, they got less quality and less lasting goods. As everyone wants to look good and wear good clothes, when they see the same design but cheaper price, they ran to buy it without seeing its quality. Some of them even last just few weeks. Moreover, in this way they waste their money which they got by doing intenstive labour.

In conclusion, i would say that the drawbacks of this development outweigh its benefits because they buy the low-quality goods and waste their money.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the prompt: you explain the influence through television and social-media advertising, and you give a clear negative overall view, while acknowledging benefits such as confidence and awareness of trends. Your examples of celebrity promotions and people buying cheaper versions of fashionable clothes are relevant. However, the explanation of how global fashion became influential is quite narrow, focusing mainly on advertising; you could also develop the role of international brands, online shopping, or cultural exchange. Some points, especially the claimed confidence benefit and the poor quality of cheaper goods, are asserted rather than fully explained or supported. Extending these ideas with a specific example and clearer cause-and-effect reasoning would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the influence and its effects, and a conclusion that restates your position. The contrast signalled by “There are some advantages” and “However” helps readers follow the discussion. Within paragraphs, though, progression is sometimes mechanical, and links between claims are not always clear. For example, the paragraph about advantages moves from awareness of trends to confidence without fully explaining the connection. The conclusion also repeats the point about wasted money rather than drawing together the main reasons. Use clearer topic sentences and develop each paragraph around one central idea, with linking phrases that show cause, contrast, or consequence precisely.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “global fashion trends,” “social media platforms,” “brands,” and “low-quality goods.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “intensive labour,” although the phrase is not quite natural in this context. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “stongly,” “celeberities,” “lothes,” and “foot wearings.” Some expressions are awkward or imprecise, such as “the trend used” and “good clothes.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the argument, but they limit precision and fluency. Check spelling carefully and learn natural collocations for clothing, affordability, and fashion influence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a conditional-style example beginning “when they see the same design.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction recur. For example, “people becomes aware” should use a plural verb, while “they ran to buy it” does not maintain the appropriate present-tense form. The sentence beginning “As people did want to be called old fashioned” is also structurally unclear, and the comma splice in “not everyone can afford luxury and expensive brands, they got…” makes the relationship between clauses difficult to follow. Practise accurate complex sentences and review subject–verb agreement and tense consistency.
