Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify social media as a reason global fashion has become influential and state that this influence “can be seen as a positive development.” These points are relevant, but the response only begins to explain the first part of the question: it mentions exposure to cultures without showing how this exposure changes people’s clothing choices. The positive or negative judgement is not supported with reasons or examples, and the second part of the task is therefore largely unanswered. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words, leaving too little space to develop either part. To improve, explain the mechanisms behind fashion’s influence and support a clear evaluation with specific examples and consequences.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic line of thought: the opening introduces global fashion, and the next sentence links its growing influence to social media and exposure to other cultures. However, the response ends before this progression is developed, and there is no clear paragraph structure or concluding statement. The connection between “different people from various background” and changes in clothing is left implicit. Some linking is attempted through “this is because,” but the ideas need clearer sequencing and fuller development. Organise the response into an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each question, and a conclusion; use linking phrases to show how each explanation supports your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant vocabulary, including “global fashion,” “influence,” “social media,” and “cultures,” so the main topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is narrow and several expressions are imprecise or awkward, such as “the style of clothes humans were” and “influence in peoples dressing.” There are also spelling and form issues, including “peoples” where a possessive is intended and “everyday” for the adverbial phrase “every day.” These choices reduce naturalness, although the central meaning can still be followed. Build a wider set of topic-specific expressions and check collocations and spelling when revising.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both a longer opening sentence and a cause-and-effect structure, as in “this is because as people use social media more everyday they are introduced…”. However, sentence structures are mostly simple or unfinished, and punctuation does not consistently separate ideas. The opening also contains errors in verb form and sentence construction: “clothes humans were” does not express the intended meaning, while the first paragraph runs several statements together without clear sentence boundaries. The final sentence is incomplete as an explanation because it does not connect the exposure to a specific result. Practise forming complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and use full stops and commas to mark clauses accurately.
