Student answer (Band 6.5)
Fashion sense of many individuals from around the world is mainly influenced by the global fashion trends. The main reason for this development is the popularity of social media among young individuals. I personally think, that this is a negative development.
Social media has been critically influencing everyday life of many individuals. They consume content, follow celebrities and eventually try to copy whatever is in trend. The pressure of keeping up with trend has been growing in general population around the world. Every year celebrities and designers come up with new ideas that are followed globally, by many people. An example of this might be the red carpet walks. Thousands of individuals try top copy whatever celebrities are wearing.
The impact of following these trends are negative overall. One of the main effects of this development is that younger population is now distant from their culture. The unification in attires that is imposed by social media has made youth forget what their culture has to offer. The other issue is that originality of culture is also being influenced. People try to mix and match outfits from different cultures, which results in loss of the originality that culture used to provide. For example in Pakistan the traditional dress, shalwar and qameez, is now considered out of fashion. Many young individuals are now wearing this dress in ways that does not align with the tradition. With time it is expected that shalwar and qameez would be considered an outfit only for prayers or weddings.
In conclusion, there might be some merits to the global fashion trends. But, the overall impact seems negative. The social media has manipulated young individuals in ways that they are forgetting what their culutre offers. A mix of trends and cultural attires are key to keep the balance in this regard.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your response addresses both parts of the question: you explain social media’s role in spreading trends and clearly state that you view this as negative. The discussion of celebrity influence and the example of shalwar kameez give relevant support, and your position remains consistent through the conclusion. To make the development more complete, explain more specifically how social media turns exposure into pressure—for instance, through repeated advertising, influencers, or fear of being left out. The cultural effects are also somewhat generalised: the claim that young people are forgetting their culture would be stronger with a clearer explanation or a more precise example. Your brief acknowledgement of possible merits is not developed, though your overall response still covers the task clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs explaining the cause and negative effects, and a conclusion. The progression from social-media influence to cultural consequences is easy to follow, and signposts such as “One of the main effects” and “The other issue” help readers navigate the argument. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent arrangement, while the paragraphing and central line of argument show some features of stronger organisation. However, links can feel mechanical, particularly the repeated “The other…” construction, and “this development” is not always precise about whether it refers to global trends or social media. Use more varied transitions and clearer references, and connect the example about Pakistani clothing more explicitly to the preceding claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “global fashion trends,” “red carpet walks,” “originality of culture,” and “mix and match.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word-choice and collocation problems limit precision: “critically influencing” is not natural in this context, “pressure of keeping up with trend” needs a more idiomatic form, and “top copy” appears to be an incorrect word choice. There are also spelling errors, including “culutre.” Aim for more accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; precise phrasing will make your argument sound more fluent without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including “They consume content, follow celebrities and eventually try…” and the longer sentence beginning “People try to mix and match outfits…”. Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “The impact … are negative” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “ways that does not align” should agree with the plural “ways.” The comma in “I personally think, that” is unnecessary, and “the social media” uses an incorrect article. There is also a tense and modal problem in “it is expected that … would be considered.” Review agreement, articles, and punctuation, then proofread each sentence for consistency. More accurate control of these forms would strengthen the range you already attempt.
