Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is widely acknowledged that many individuals dress in a certain way in the modern era because they are heavily influenced by international fashion trends. In my opinion, this represents a mixed development with both merits and demerits. This essay will explore both the positive and negative aspects of this global phenomenon.

To begin with, a substantial number of the populace are influenced by their fashion icons because of the fact that they want to become like them and adopt their dressing styles. For instance, influential Hollywood personalities wear a wide range of unique outfits at various award shows and public show, which deeply inspired people to emulate their fashion sense. Consequently, experimenting with modern styles enhances people's personal confidence and brings a sense of happiness, which ultimately creates a positive and vibrant in the atmosphere.

On the other hand, if a distinct members of society continuously adopt global fashion trends, they are highly likely to drift away from their cultural identities. In fact, Muslim societies often prefer traditional dressing that reflect their culture and heritage. Nevertheless, if they adopted this, they would become disconnected from their local customs and values. Furthermore, as long as wealthy citizens of a developed nations buy international dresses, it will have a harmful effect on local textile industry. Indeed, it will also damage national economic growth by reducing the sales of local businesses. Consequently, it will also have an adverse effect on the environment. This is because when the demand for global clothing continuously increases, international transportation such as cargo ships, trucks and aircrafts requires a vast amount of fossil fuels, emitting a large quantity of greenhouse gases that severely damage the environment.

In conclusion, although global fashion events encouraged individuals to improve their personal styling and enhance their social confidence. Besides, it also effects the traditional culture, customs and values of the religious country, it also have negative impacts on domestic textile industry and increases environmental pollution.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the prompt: the influence of fashion icons helps explain how global trends spread, and you give a clear mixed view by discussing confidence as a benefit and cultural, economic, and environmental costs as drawbacks. The examples of Hollywood personalities and international clothing transport are relevant. However, the explanation of how fashion becomes influential is narrower than the question invites: it focuses mainly on celebrities, without developing other mechanisms such as social media, advertising, or online shopping. Some consequences are also asserted rather than fully explained; for example, the link between adopting global styles and losing cultural identity needs a clearer account. Your position is clear, but fuller development and more precise support would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from celebrity influence to confidence, then to cultural and economic effects, is generally easy to follow. You also use a range of linking expressions, including “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “Consequently.” At times, however, these links feel mechanical or do not accurately express the relationship between ideas. “Nevertheless” does not clearly contrast with the preceding sentence, and the conclusion’s “Besides” makes the final points feel loosely connected. Some references, such as “if they adopted this,” are unclear. More precise transitions and clearer links between claims would make the organisation more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary and make attempts at less common expressions, including “cultural identities,” “local customs and values,” “textile industry,” and “greenhouse gases.” These choices help communicate the topic, and the meaning is generally clear. Some collocations and word choices are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “a positive and vibrant in the atmosphere” does not form a complete or natural phrase, while “public show” and “international dresses” are imprecise. “A distinct members” also shows difficulty selecting the right form. Aim for natural combinations such as “a positive, vibrant atmosphere,” “public appearances,” and “international clothing brands.” Greater precision and more consistent control of collocation would make the vocabulary more flexible and effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional clauses and explanations with “because,” and several sentences communicate their meaning clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in agreement, articles, and verb forms. For example, “a distinct members” has a mismatch between article and noun, “traditional dressing that reflect” needs subject–verb agreement, and “it also have negative impacts” should use a verb agreeing with “it.” The conclusion also begins with “although” but does not complete the contrast in a grammatically balanced way. These errors do not generally prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy. Review agreement and sentence completeness, especially when combining several ideas in longer sentences.
