Student answer (Band 5.5)
A lot of discussion surrounds the way dressing of people is impacted by global fashion tends. In this contemporary society almost every aspect of life is directly or indirectly influenced by trends on social media as the world has now become a global village hence the spread of this influence is quite rapid. In this essay I shall be discussing the reason of this strong impact on population furthermore I believe it is a negative development and I will support my stance with valid causes.
Man has always being concious of his dressing and social media has made him even more self-aware. When a rich celebrity is seen following a certain weird trend it is perceived as something which only peole with elite taste do. In order to appear unique people willy-nilly do these trend even if they find them horrible. The met galas are prime epitome of this influence where famous figures wear something bizarre just to be different and the common citizens who view those celebrities as ideal wear the same thing. Moreover, designers are now creating clothes which can carry cultures all around the world as clothes are seen as a way of gaining respect.
To recapitulate, In all of this fuss poor people are effected badly. They can't even afford simple clothing just to cover their body and this global fashion demands them to buy exotic clothes if they want to be respected. For example, in my school youngsters are buying branded bags, clothes and shoes on installments so they can be the talk of the school and they can brag about it to ther kids. I pen down by saying that good fashion trends should be encouraged but that trends that encourage overpricing of clothes should be discouraged.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the prompt: you explain the influence through social media, celebrities and the desire to appear distinctive, and you clearly state that you see the development as negative. The Met Gala example and the school example help make your points relevant. However, the explanation of how designers spread cultural influences is brief and its connection to the question is not fully clear. Your discussion of the negative effects focuses mainly on the cost of branded or exotic clothing; the final qualification that good trends should be encouraged is not explained. Develop these less-supported points with clearer cause-and-effect reasoning and examples to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an introduction, a main paragraph about causes and a concluding paragraph about effects, so the overall arrangement is understandable. Ideas generally progress from social media and celebrity influence to the financial pressure on young people. However, the body paragraph combines several points without clearly separating or developing them, and the conclusion begins with “To recapitulate” before introducing a new example. Some linking is mechanical, particularly “furthermore” in the introduction and “Moreover” between ideas that are not closely connected. Use clearer topic sentences, organise causes and consequences into distinct paragraphs, and make references such as “this influence” more precise to improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “global village,” “elite taste,” “bizarre,” “exotic clothes” and “overpricing.” These choices show an effort to express ideas beyond basic language. However, several inaccurate or unnatural expressions reduce precision: “fashion tends” for trends, “prime epitome,” “do these trend,” and “brag about it to ther kids.” Spelling errors such as “concious,” “peole” and “effected” are also noticeable. Some phrases, including “valid causes” and “I pen down,” sound unnatural in this essay. Aim for accurate collocations and consistent spelling, and choose vocabulary that states your meaning directly rather than relying on awkward or overly dramatic phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if they want to be respected” and a relative clause in “who view those celebrities as ideal.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction are evident. For example, “Man has always being” should use the correct participle, and “people willy-nilly do these trend” has problems with agreement and number. The opening sentence also contains an awkward construction, while the long sentence beginning “In this contemporary society” needs clearer punctuation to separate its ideas. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, correct verb form, and appropriate punctuation.
