Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Global fashion trends have been highly influencial in the way people dress today in several different aspects. People have been quite approachable to international fashion due to the rise in social media and this has both positive and negative development.

Earlier this decade when social media and internet were un-common people had no access to the international fashion and used to dress as per their culture which clearly reflects the uniqueness of their history. As the rise in technological development, people get more access to the international trends and started following it instead of their local culture and heritage which will have a negative affect on their future generation since they might only follow global fashion trends even if it is not in accordance with their culture or religional practice. In support of this, current Gen Z can be observed blindly following the fashion trends due to the only reason that is on the internet and considered globally updated.

Despite this, fashion industry has seen a massive growth globally because it is easily accessible over the internet and brands also expanding themselves internationally. Instead of being old school, people can now easily check on international trends and follow them by purchasing it locally which promotes healthy grooming of the people as per global trend along with growth of the local market as well.

In conclusion, global fashion has been influencing alot in the way people dress which has a positive impact in the growth of global market but also has a negative effect on the local culture of the countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the prompt: you identify social media and internet access as drivers of global fashion, and you present both cultural loss and market growth as effects. Your position is therefore relevant, but it is not fully decisive: the introduction calls the development both positive and negative, while the conclusion repeats the two sides without clearly judging which overall view you hold. The point about younger people following trends “blindly” is relevant, but it needs a specific example or fuller explanation of how this affects cultural identity. Likewise, the benefit to local markets is asserted rather than illustrated. Develop these ideas with clearer cause-and-effect reasoning and make your overall evaluation explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on cultural drawbacks, a paragraph on commercial benefits, and a conclusion. This makes the main line of discussion easy to follow. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “Despite this” introduces the benefits, but the relationship between market growth and the preceding cultural concern could be explained more precisely. The opening sentence of the second paragraph also moves abruptly from past access to present-day effects. In addition, “this” in “this has both positive and negative development” does not clearly refer to a specific idea. Use more precise referencing and link each paragraph’s main claim to its supporting explanation so the progression feels smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “international fashion,” “culture and heritage,” “fashion industry,” and “global market.” These choices help communicate the central ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. However, several inaccurate or unnatural expressions limit precision: “highly influencial,” “people have been quite approachable to international fashion,” “negative affect,” and “healthy grooming” do not express the intended meanings naturally. There are also spelling errors such as “un-common,” “alot,” and “religional.” Aim for accurate collocations and word forms, and proofread spelling. More precise terms for cultural influence and consumer behaviour would help you express the argument with greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a conditional clause in “even if it is not in accordance with their culture” and a relative clause beginning “which clearly reflects.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction and verb forms. For example, “As the rise in technological development” is an incomplete introductory phrase, and “people get more access … and started following it” shifts tense within the same construction. In “brands also expanding themselves internationally,” the verb phrase is incomplete. Articles and agreement also need attention, as in “the internet” and “this has both positive and negative development.” Review complete clause structure and keep tense and verb forms consistent.
