Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent decades, clothing choices around the world have becomeincreasingly similar, largely driven by international fashion. This essay will discuss the reasons behind this trend and aregue that it is a largely negative developement.
Global fashion has become so influential for two main reasons. Firstly, social media and the internet have made trends instantly accessible. Platforms like TikTok, Instagram and youtube allow people in pakistan, for example to see theclebrities in the USA or a Korea are wearing inreal time and they want to copy it. Secondly, the globalization of brand has made these clothrs affordable and available. International brands like Zara and Nike have stores in almost every major city and thier online shopping makes it even easier. Therefore, people no longer dress according to local traditions, but according to what is poppular globally.
In my opinion, this is negatives are more serious. One major problem is the loss of cultural identity. For instance, young people now prefer jeans and t shirts over traditional clothes like shalwar kameez, so local cukture is slowly disappering. Another issue is consumerism and financial pressure. Because trends change very fast, people feel pressure to buy new clothes instantly, which is expensive and leads to wastage. This fast fashion also harms the environment.
In conclusion, while global fashion connects us to the world, its dominance over local dress culture and its promotion of unneccessary comsumption make it negative trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the prompt: you explain the influence of social media and international brands, then clearly argue that the development is negative. The examples of TikTok and Instagram, Zara and Nike, and shalwar kameez make the response relevant. Your reasons are generally clear, but some are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, you say local culture is “slowly disappearing” without showing how this affects cultural identity beyond clothing. The environmental harm of fast fashion is also mentioned but not supported with an example or explanation. The response is 16 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop these points. More specific support and fuller development would strengthen the response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining the causes, a paragraph presenting your evaluation, and a conclusion. The progression from online exposure and brand availability to cultural and financial consequences is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of your argument. To make the organisation more flexible, avoid relying mainly on explicit signposts and develop clearer links between related claims. For example, the point about rapidly changing trends could be connected more directly to both financial pressure and environmental waste. The sentence beginning “Therefore” also makes a broad transition from brand availability to the decline of local dress, which would benefit from a more explicit explanation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “global fashion,” “cultural identity,” “consumerism,” “financial pressure,” and “fast fashion.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the examples are specific enough to make the discussion understandable. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate, such as “the globalization of brand,” “this is negatives are more serious,” and “make it negative trend.” There are also spelling errors, including “developement,” “thier,” “poppular,” and “unneccessary.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and polish. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases, such as “globalisation of brands” and “a negative trend.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “clothes like shalwar kameez, so local culture is slowly disappearing” and a subordinate clause beginning “Because trends change very fast.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “people in Pakistan … see what the celebrities … are wearing” needs clearer sentence construction, and “this is negatives are more serious” has faulty clause structure. In “people feel pressure to buy new clothes instantly, which is expensive,” the reference of “which” is unclear. Review sentence boundaries, agreement, and pronoun reference, and proofread punctuation. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
