Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent times, global fashion style influences the outfit choices of people mostly due to the active and passive promotion through social media. I believe, this is a negative development as blindly following western fashion could deminish uses of the traditional costumes of different cultures worldwide.

Social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest, is become popular among the people all over the world, particularly among young generation who follows the current trends to keep them up to date. From teenagers to adults, people from all ages are mostly influenced by what they watch in reels and vlogs, which passively promot the western culture including their food, home decor and clothing style. For example, recent trend of wearing baggy jeans is actually a result of videos and photos of many influencers styling baggy jeans with shirt and tops as their everyday outfit.

However, adopting a common dressing style all around the world could possibly harm the traditional clothing styles because our youth is now less interested in the traditional dresses like sharee, and salwar-kamiz as their everyday wear and they don't feel confortable in it. Foe instance, although the main dress of women in Bangladesh was mostly sharee, now the office going women are less comfortable in wearing sharee and prefer western dresses likely shirt and jeans as ther office outfit. This situation can lead to the extinction of our cultural touch in dresses that holds the regional history and heritage.

In conclusion, people try to follow what they consumed in social media including the global fashion, but as far as I am concerned, following western clothing style is not a positive trend to adopt as our traditional wears become less popular.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain social media’s role in spreading fashion and clearly state that you see this as negative because traditional clothing may lose popularity. The examples of influencers promoting baggy jeans and Bangladeshi office workers choosing Western clothes make the response relevant and help illustrate your position. However, the explanation of how global fashion became influential is narrower than the question allows: social media is the main cause discussed, while other possible influences, such as international brands or celebrity culture, are not explored. The consequences for cultural dress are also asserted more than developed. To strengthen the response, explain the mechanisms and effects in greater depth, and connect each example explicitly to your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction presents the cause and opinion, two body paragraphs develop these points, and the conclusion restates your view. The progression from social-media promotion to the possible decline of traditional clothing is easy to follow, and examples are placed in relevant paragraphs. Cohesion is sometimes mechanical, however, with transitions such as “However” and “In conclusion” doing much of the linking. Some references are also unclear or awkward, including “what they consumed in social media,” which makes the concluding idea less precise. Improve the flow by linking cause and consequence within paragraphs and using clearer references, rather than relying mainly on signposting phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “global fashion,” “traditional costumes,” “influencers,” “everyday outfit,” and “cultural touch.” These choices make the subject clear, and some phrases show an attempt to express more specific ideas. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “passively promot,” “deminish uses,” “comfortable in it,” and “what they consumed in social media” are not natural or accurate in context. There are also misspellings such as “confortable” and “ther.” Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms for the spread of trends and the decline of cultural clothing would help make the argument more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a reason clause in “as blindly following western fashion could…” and a concession in “although the main dress of women in Bangladesh was mostly sharee…”. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “Social media … is become popular” has an incorrect verb form, and “young generation who follows” has a number-agreement problem. The opening “I believe, this is” also uses punctuation incorrectly, while “people from all ages are mostly influenced by what they watch” shows awkward sentence construction. To improve, check subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles, and comma placement, while continuing to use complex sentences with clearer control.
