Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, the dressing of people is greatly influenced by global fashion trends. This trend influences people's lives. It is a negative development.

Trends in the world are not always useful. There are different kinds of fashion. Some fashion makes sense while others do not. People follow the trend without thinking. They do not consider their own choice and follow the trend without thinking.

Social media has made the world a global village. People watch influencers on social media and try to copy them. Their style, their fashion. They don't think if that particular fashion will suit them or not. . Not all trends are worth following.

Nowadays, the brand has a great influence on one's lives. People just want to wear brands that are trending. They do not take into consideration the quality and the cost of the product. They just want to buy the product because it's trending. For example, the Labubu doll is just a normal doll but evryone become mad to buy it. The main purpose of the doll is for playing. But people do not buy anything for its purpose. They it for trend.

The biggest backlash of the global trend is to fit into society. The society bullys the person who is unaware of current fashion trend. Everyone, in order to fit into society, follows the baseless current trend. for example, if a particular person did not tuck the corner of his shirt into his pants, he is not worth friendship in school because he does not know about the trend. Every other child bullies that individual.

in conclusion, the negative effects outweigh the positive effects of global trends.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you consider global fashion a negative development, and you address both how it spreads and its effects. The discussion of social media influencers explains one route by which trends reach people, while the brand and Labubu example illustrates trend-driven buying. The bullying example also gives a relevant social consequence. However, these points are not developed equally: the explanation of how social media creates influence is brief, and the essay says little about why global trends have become powerful beyond copying influencers and wanting popular brands. Some claims, such as people being bullied over a shirt style, would be more convincing with fuller explanation or a more specific example. Develop the causes and consequences more fully and connect each example explicitly to your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction states your view, body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. The paragraphs generally group related ideas, particularly the discussion of social media and the separate paragraph on brands. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear or repetitive. For example, “follow the trend without thinking” is repeated, and “Their style, their fashion” is a fragment that interrupts the explanation. The transition from the general point about trends to the Labubu example could also be made more explicit. Use clearer links between each claim and its example, avoid repeating the same point, and check paragraph openings and sentence boundaries to make the argument flow more smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “influencers,” “trending,” “quality,” and “fit into society.” Some topic-related wording helps make the examples clear. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repeated, especially “trend” and “fashion,” which makes the discussion sound basic. There are also noticeable word-choice and spelling problems, such as “the dressing of people,” “baseless current trend,” “bullys,” and “evryone.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Build a wider set of expressions for influence, consumer behaviour, and social pressure, and proofread spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Your writing communicates a clear overall meaning, and you attempt some longer structures, including “People just want to wear brands that are trending” and the conditional example beginning “if a particular person did not tuck…”. However, sentence forms are mostly simple, and some attempts at more complex sentences are not controlled. Examples include “They don't think if that particular fashion will suit them or not,” “They it for trend,” and “Everyone… follows… for example,” where sentence structure or punctuation makes the reading less smooth. There are also errors in agreement and sentence boundaries, such as “The society bullys the person” and the lower-case starts “for example” and “in conclusion.” Practise forming complete complex sentences and check verb forms, agreement, and punctuation during revision.
