Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many aspects of the way people dress today are influenced by global fashion trends.

Global fashion become such a strong influence on people's lives through the advertisements by celebrities on social media. People watch and follow famous personalities on social media. When they do advertisement of clothing brand people watch them and influenced by modeling and want to by clothes like them. People think its a cool to wear clothes of brand and they thing other people will praise them.

In my opinion, its a negative development because of several reasons. First of all when people follow the global fashion they prefer them and stop wearing their national and traditional clothes. In this way a nation can loss their cultural values. Once there was a fuction in my college and students were allowed to wear the formal clothes. What me and my friends notice that most of students were wearing the branded clothes which were influenced by the global trends. That time I thought that how our cultural and traditional values are going down.

Secondly, this cause a sense of disappointment among poor people. When they see that other people are wearing brand clothes and they do not have enough money to buy such clothes. Such clothes are expensive even some of them middle class families can not afford. When children see their friends wearing such clothes they also ask their parents to get them such clothes. Once one of my college barrow money from me. He told me that her daughter birthday is coming. So, she wants to buy clothe from a brand which she watched on social media. So thats why in my opinion it is a negative development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain the influence of celebrity advertising on social media and clearly state that you consider the trend negative. The two reasons—possible loss of traditional clothing and pressure on people who cannot afford branded items—are relevant, and the college event and borrowing-money examples help make them concrete. However, the explanation of how fashion becomes influential is brief, and some claims, such as national cultural values declining, would benefit from clearer development. The examples are personal but could be linked more explicitly to the wider effects of global trends. To strengthen the response, explain the process of influence in more detail and develop each supporting point with a clear consequence or explanation. (The 24 words copied from the task prompt are excluded from the stated count.)

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an explanation of the influence, followed by a clear opinion and two supporting reasons. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all” and “Secondly” help readers follow the main points. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and several ideas are joined in a repetitive or mechanical way, particularly through repeated uses of “when” and “such clothes.” The final sentence repeats the negative position rather than drawing the reasons together. Some references are also difficult to follow, such as “they prefer them,” where the pronoun’s meaning is unclear. Use clearer links between cause and effect, vary your transitions, and organise each paragraph around one main point with its example and explanation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “global fashion trends,” “traditional clothes,” “cultural values,” and “branded clothes.” These expressions show awareness of the subject, and the reader can generally understand your position. However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “do advertisement,” “a cool,” and “loss their cultural values.” Spelling and word-form errors, including “fuction,” “barrow,” and “clothe,” also reduce clarity and control. Aim to learn common combinations for discussing media and consumer behaviour, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you express the effects of fashion trends without relying on repeated words such as “clothes.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, including conditional or time clauses such as “When they see that other people are wearing brand clothes…” This gives the response some variety, and the main message is usually understandable. However, errors occur across verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “Global fashion become” needs a correctly formed verb, while “a nation can loss” has an incorrect verb form and agreement pattern. In “most of students were wearing,” the article is missing, and “some of them middle class families can not afford” is not grammatically complete. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb, correct articles, and consistent agreement.
