Student answer (Band 6.0)
The impact of international fashion trends on the community has become a controversial topic nowadays. It is often argued that the people's lives are greatly influenced by the global fashion industry due to the advancements in the fashion industry. In my opinion, it is a negative development that people are hugely influenced by various fashion trends. This essay will describe all the negative aspects of this notion.
Overall, fashion plays a very vital role in our daily lives, as it enables us to dress properly in order to present ourselves appropriately. However, we should also consider that it can be costly because of various international brands and businesses.
Firstly, the global fashion industry negatively influences society, as it promotes costly garments and shoes, which are not affordable by middle-class people. This will create an imbalance in the society, as people with better resources than a middle-class person will over-spent on these products. Moreover, people will become more brand conscious than wearing simple and decent clothes. This will create a class system among masses, which will impact negatively on the development of society. People will spend a substantial amount of income in order to buy these items. For instance, brands like Gucci can cost a fortune in order to buy a simple product from this brand, as it is an international brand which can only be accessible by elite-class people.
Although the global fashion trends are quite expensive, it does not mean that we should completely neglect to dress properly. People should consider the quality of the product rather than the brand of the product. They should buy quality products from the local market, which can be very beneficial for the local industry to grow and compete with the global market.
In conclusion, the international fashion trends impact the day-to-day aspects of people's lives by introducing new fashion and garments which tempt the people to buy these expensive clothes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is clear: you consider global fashion a negative development, and the discussion of expensive brands, social divisions and spending supports that view. However, the task asks both how global fashion became so influential and whether this is positive or negative. The second part receives a clear answer, but the first is only briefly addressed through “the advancements in the fashion industry” and the introduction of new fashions; you do not explain specific drivers such as social media, advertising or international retail. Some points, including the claim that fashion creates a “class system,” are asserted rather than fully explained. Develop the causes of fashion’s influence and extend your examples to address both parts more evenly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement, with an introduction, a paragraph on costs and social effects, a qualification about dressing well, and a conclusion. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and connectors such as “Firstly,” “Moreover” and “For instance” help signal relationships. However, the paragraph beginning “Overall” introduces a general point about dressing properly and cost, but its role in the argument is not fully clear. The paragraph beginning “Although” shifts towards advice about local products without clearly linking this to the earlier criticism. The conclusion repeats the expense argument rather than drawing together the main reasons. Use clearer links between these ideas and make each paragraph’s purpose more distinct.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “global fashion industry,” “brand conscious,” “substantial amount of income” and “local industry.” These choices allow you to discuss cost and social effects, and the meaning remains clear. There are also some imprecise or unnatural combinations: “over-spent on these products” would be more naturally expressed as “overspend on these products,” while “accessible by elite-class people” is awkward and could be “affordable only to the wealthy.” “Fashion plays a very vital role” is also repetitive in meaning. Aim for more precise collocations and avoid repeating broad terms such as “product,” “people” and “fashion” when a more specific noun would make the point clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses with “as,” “which” and “although.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and punctuation generally supports the argument. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “the people’s lives” is an awkward plural construction in this context; “people’s lives” is more natural. In “it does not mean that we should completely neglect to dress properly,” the pronoun “it” has no clear grammatical reference. The sentence “people with better resources than a middle-class person will over-spent” also has a faulty verb form after “will”; use the base form “overspend.” Check agreement and verb patterns, while continuing to use complex sentences with clear references.
