Student answer (Band 5.0)

There is an on going debate about many aspects of the way people dress today are influenced by global fashion trends and how has global fashion become such a strong influence on people's lives. For this, the discussion will take place about whether this is a positive or negative development.

Fashion is very subjective, personal but yet very publically outspoken topic. Fashion not only defines confidence but also class, which automatically indicates it as a positive development. The evolution of fashion can be seen with the naked eyes. Decade after Decade, Century after Century fashion redefines itself and global fashion brands played an intergral part by establishing global fashion trends.

By the time development happend, in the meanwhile the fashion also developed in itself and became a social status and influenced people both in positive and negative manner. In a postive way, it gives confidence, class and social status to the people. Fashion became a medium for many companies to become giagantic.

Fashion has also a negative side. For instance, many people use to rent or buy atires on lost cost EMIs, which affects their pockets directly or indirectly. By which the creativity dies to create a trendy attire. Many times thoughts exchanged in the form of allegations of copying each other's style, which makes fashion industry vulgar. People use to copy global fashion trends without knowing or analysing whether a fashion trend will suit them or not.

In the end, i would like to conclude that fashion trends are part of life but knowing whether a fashion trend will suit them or not is a must before following any fashion trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a view that fashion has positive and negative effects, and you mention confidence and social status as benefits alongside financial pressure and copying trends as drawbacks. However, the task is only partially addressed: the main question of how global fashion became influential is not clearly explained. The reference to global brands establishing trends is brief, with no account of mechanisms such as social media, advertising, or international retail. Your position also shifts: you call fashion a positive development, then discuss both sides, and conclude mainly with advice to consumers. The response is 246 words, below the 250-word minimum; the 26 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop the causes of fashion’s influence and state a consistent overall judgement, supported with specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, discussion of benefits, discussion of drawbacks, and a conclusion. This helps readers identify the broad stages of your argument. However, progression between ideas is often unclear or mechanical. For example, “By the time development happend, in the meanwhile” does not establish a clear link to the previous paragraph, and “By which the creativity dies” leaves the relationship between low-cost purchases and creativity difficult to follow. The introduction repeats much of the task wording rather than setting up a clear line of argument, while the conclusion does not fully bring together the points made. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to your main claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt some topic-related vocabulary, including “social status,” “global fashion brands,” “creativity,” and “allegations of copying,” which gives the response a relevant range of terms. However, the vocabulary is limited and several inaccurate or unnatural choices make meaning less clear. Examples include “publically outspoken topic,” “giagantic,” “atire,” and “lost cost EMIs”; these appear to be misspellings or unsuitable collocations. Phrases such as “fashion redefines itself” are understandable but remain general, and “fashion industry vulgar” does not clearly express the intended criticism. Aim for precise, natural combinations such as “low-cost instalment plans” and “imitate popular styles,” and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast between positive and negative effects and the conditional idea in “whether a fashion trend will suit them or not.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. The opening sentence combines an incomplete debate construction with an indirect question: “There is an on going debate about … and how has …”. Other examples include “Fashion has also a negative side” and “many people use to rent or buy,” where word order and verb form are not controlled. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “Decade after Decade, Century after Century.” Practise forming complete clauses and checking tense, word order, and sentence boundaries.
