Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dressing has been an essential component in people lifestyle. In the past people utilized dresses to cover their bodies and to protect them from harsh environment. However, nowadays dresses are the symbol of status for people and the style of their dressing has been completely influenced by the global fashion trends. I believe these trends has both positive and negative effects on people dressing. In this essay i will elaborate both trends respectively.

First of all, people live in different culture and they have different cultural values about their dressing and life styles for example, people living in Asia specifically in India prefer to wear shalwar kameez and saree, on the other hand , people in Europe have the trend of not covering their body entirely. This demarcation is due to their fashion trends that are advertised publically in their social media at country level

Moreover, in this era of technology, people has access to internet . they can explore new trends internationally and at country level, people are easily influenced by the fashion trends followed by the influencers which made them dress accordingly. for instance, nowadays people especially young girls are highly influenced by tik tok application which bring modern fashion into rural areas and let them experience the global fashion culture which is a positive development.

However, some people believe that dressing inappropreatly or against their cultural trends has a negative impact on society. it is believed that global fashion advertised more exposed culture and people should dress modestly and must take care of their cultural norms.

To recapitulate, global fashion trends have greatly influenced people especially youngsters to experience new culture but at it the same time it has badly impacted the cultural values of modest dressing. In my perspective, it should be the choice of people what they want to wear but, they must care about their cultural values of modest clothing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain the influence of social media and influencers, and present a mixed view of the effects. The example of TikTok bringing fashion trends to rural areas is relevant, while your conclusion makes your position clearer by supporting personal choice alongside respect for cultural values. However, the explanation of how global fashion became influential is not fully developed: the opening mentions status, but the body focuses mainly on internet access and gives little detail about how advertising or international media spread trends. The positive and negative effects are also unevenly explained, with the negative point about modesty and cultural norms left quite general. Develop each cause and effect with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to explanations, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “First of all,” “Moreover,” and “However” helps readers follow the main stages. At times, though, the links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. The first body paragraph discusses cultural differences and then refers to trends advertised on social media, but the connection between these points needs to be made explicit. The opening also promises to discuss both trends “respectively,” which does not accurately describe the essay’s organisation. Use topic sentences that directly identify each paragraph’s purpose, and make references such as “these trends” or “it” clearly point to a specific idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “global fashion trends,” “cultural values,” “influencers,” and “modestly.” These choices make the subject clear, and terms such as “demarcation” show an attempt to use less common vocabulary. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, such as “people lifestyle,” “the style of their dressing,” and “advertised publically at country level.” Spelling and word-form errors, including “inappropreatly,” also reduce precision. Aim for natural combinations such as “people’s lifestyles,” “clothing styles,” and “promoted through social media.” More precise vocabulary for the mechanisms of influence and the consequences would also help you express your ideas with greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses with “However” and examples introduced by “for instance.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation remain. For example, “these trends has” should be “these trends have,” and “people has access” should be “people have access.” The sentence beginning “First of all, people live in different culture” also needs plural agreement and clearer punctuation around its example. Capitalisation is inconsistent, as in “i” and the sentence beginning “they can explore.” Review subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries, then proofread for capital letters and commas. Greater accuracy in these areas would make your varied sentence forms more controlled.
