Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is undoudtedly true that the way people dress nowadays is influenced by global fashion trends. This has become possible due to the widespread popularity of fashion on social media . While I believe it is important for people to accept global trends and fashion, I only encourage it to an extent where people won't forget about their own cultural identity.

Rapid globalisation has brought all the cultures of the world closer. Now people of different countries have started to share their cultures anbd diversity to each other. Again, due to the use of internet, people can easily see which fashion is trending today. For example people all around the world know about the old-money style, whereas its originally originated from London.

Following global fasion trends, emerging one-self in a different culture have brought people of many nation together. As a result, many econoimic and political relationships have been established among the nations. Aside from this, the welcoming of one's culture have encouraged tourists to visit other countries that have resulted in economic growth. Therefore global fashion has a postive development.

However, there are some counter-productive results that have emerged from following fashion trends. People are now forgetting about their cultural identity as they are being influenced by global fashion trends. Consequently, our culture and history are being replaced by fashion trends. For example, many people of our country have stopped wearing salawar with panjabi, rather they are wearing bootcut or trimmed-end pants. Again many people of our society can't keep up with the global fashion trends finiancially. As a result, they may feel isolated and called backdated

.

In conclusion, following global trends isn't the problem, the problem lies when we are following the trends at the cost of our own cultural identity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the question: you explain the influence of globalisation and the internet, and give a qualified view that global fashion is positive only when it does not displace cultural identity. The examples of the “old-money style” and changing clothing choices in your country make the discussion relevant. Your position is clear in the introduction and conclusion. However, some points are less fully developed: the claim that fashion brings nations together and creates economic and political relationships is asserted without showing how this happens, and the tourism benefit could be explained more directly. To strengthen the response, develop the mechanisms behind fashion’s influence and support each main claim with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, moving from the causes of global influence to benefits, drawbacks, and a concluding qualification. Paragraphs generally have identifiable purposes, and linking expressions such as “For example,” “As a result,” and “However” help readers follow the argument. This gives the response a coherent progression. Some connections are less secure: “Following global fashion trends, emerging one-self in a different culture” is difficult to interpret, and the relationship between fashion, political relationships, and tourism is not made explicit. Several transitions, including repeated uses of “Again” and “As a result,” feel mechanical. Use more precise referencing and vary transitions so that the logical relationship between each claim is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “globalisation,” “cultural identity,” “emerging,” and “counter-productive,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. There are also attempts to express abstract ideas about culture and economic growth. However, spelling errors such as “undoudtedly,” “fasion,” “econoimic,” and “postive” reduce accuracy, while some word choices and collocations are unclear, notably “emerging one-self in a different culture” and “called backdated.” “Fashion trends” is also repeated frequently. Aim for more precise, natural phrasing and check spelling carefully; for example, explain that people adopt styles from other cultures rather than saying they “emerge” in them.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including subordinate clauses with “While,” “whereas,” and “as,” and most ideas remain understandable. Some sentence patterns are controlled, such as “In conclusion, following global trends isn’t the problem.” However, errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain noticeable. For example, “the welcoming of one’s culture have encouraged” has a singular subject with a plural verb, and “many econoimic and political relationships have been established among the nations” is grammatically awkward in its construction. The sentence beginning “Following global fashion trends” also lacks a clear grammatical structure. Review subject–verb agreement and ensure introductory phrases clearly connect to the subject of the main clause.
