Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's modern world, the way people dress is heavily influenced by the trends set by multinational fashion brands. I strongly disagree with this development, and in this essay, I will explain how these brands have such a huge impact on people's lives and give two primary reasons for my disagreement. First is that most people cannot afford to follow these trends and by trying to follow these, they create many problems for themselves. Secondly, the fashion industry is so heavily congested with these brands that it also has huge impact on many individuals trying to make a living in this industry.

The main reason for this to be such a negative development is that, many people watch other people on, the social media or on any other occasions, wearing the clothes designed by these brands and getting attention and respect, so they also want to follow in there footsteps and want to wear the same type of clothing. By the way, this is how these brands influence lives of people. But, this is not possible for most people because most trendsetter brands are very expensive, and people cannot afford them but they still buy these to look good in the eyes of others. Therefor, these people cannot manage there expenses.

Secondly, the fashion industry is very competetive nowadays. At the top of industry, there are only bunch of brands, they set trends, they get to choose what people with high status should wear and so on. This a dangerous development because if there are any individuals that want to enter this buisness, they simply cannot compete with these brands. This has strong impact on many people espeacially young entrpenaurs who want to create there own companies and also huge impact on country's development.

In conclusion, trends set by multintional fashion corporations have become increasingly dangerous development, which have lot of impact on lives of the people and have very huge impact on fashion buisness community as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain influence through social media, status and the desire to imitate admired people, and you clearly judge the development negatively. The point about unaffordable brands and personal spending is relevant and supported by a consequence. However, the second reason shifts towards the difficulty of entering the fashion business, which is less directly connected to how global fashion affects people’s lives, and the claim about national development is not explained. To strengthen the response, develop the mechanisms of global influence more fully—for example, how advertising, online influencers or international retail make trends widely visible—and support the business argument with a clearer link to the question.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “First,” “Secondly” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and some references are unclear. In “follow these” and “these people,” the reader must infer what “these” refers to; “By the way” also does not create a suitable logical link to the preceding explanation. The second body paragraph moves from competition between brands to young entrepreneurs and then national development without fully connecting those points. Use more precise referencing and build each paragraph around one clearly linked chain of explanation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range to discuss fashion, influence and business, including phrases such as “multinational fashion brands,” “trendsetter brands” and “high status.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and you attempt some topic-specific vocabulary. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “competetive,” “buisness,” “therefor” and “multintional.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural: “congested with these brands” does not clearly convey the intended idea, while “follow in there footsteps” uses the wrong form and is not well controlled as a phrase. Aim for accurate collocations and proofread spelling; for example, describe the market as “dominated by a handful of global brands” rather than “congested.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because” and “if,” and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation recur. For example, “This a dangerous development” is missing a verb, and “there are only bunch of brands” needs an article. In “the fashion industry is so heavily congested with these brands that it also has huge impact,” the structure and reference are difficult to follow. Commas also interrupt clauses in places, as in “The main reason … is that, many people…” Work on producing accurate sentence patterns first, then extend them with subordinate clauses; check articles, verb forms and punctuation during revision.
