Student answer (Band 5.5)

Globlization has a great impact in people lives in recent years. In line with this, there are many aspects wherein it influenced the way on how people dress nowadays. In my opinion, fashion trend is part of a negative development.

On the one hand, the way people dress should be appropriate in the weather of their respective countries they live in. For instance, the Philippines has only two types of season, such as rainy season and sunny season, If the fashion trends is about wearing winter clothes, then it is inappropriate for Filipinos to wear these kinds of clothing. As a result, people will think that it is totally fine to wear those types of clothes as long as they are in fashion trends. The essence of the usage of clothes and dresses according to the climate and weather where people live is gone gradually.

On the one hand, although it is good that individuals from different nations can follow with the fashion trends, local manufacturers might have difficulties selling the local products. For example, since KPop Idols are trending worldwide, most of their fans will purchase merchants from them and they will choose to buy dresses that their idols are wearing. Moreover, locals will export products from Korea to sell to the costumers. Competition from different companies will increase. Consequently, while the goods from the other country are rising, local goods are leaving behind.

In conclusion, while some people think that being able to fit in with the fashion trends is a positive development, I firmly believe that this is a negative development brought by the influenced of globalization, There is nothing wrong with following the trend; however, people should also consider the substancial factors that might affect them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear negative position and address both why global fashion influences people and whether this is positive or negative. Your examples about climate-unsuitable winter clothing in the Philippines and fans buying clothes associated with K-pop idols are relevant. However, the explanation of how fashion became influential is only partly developed: the K-pop example shows a route of influence, but you could explain more directly how social media, celebrities, advertising, or international retail spread trends. The effects on local manufacturers are also asserted rather than fully explained, and the first body paragraph focuses more on unsuitable clothing than on the broader influence. Develop each main point with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation and a specific supporting detail to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, progression is uneven and some linking choices make the argument harder to follow. Both body paragraphs begin with “On the one hand,” although the second introduces a separate point rather than a contrasting side; this also leaves the relationship between the paragraphs unclear. The conclusion repeats the negative position but does not bring the two reasons together. Some references, such as “merchants from them,” are unclear, and the final sentence shifts to a general recommendation without connecting it explicitly to the argument. Use more precise transitions and make each paragraph’s central point and links between ideas explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “fashion trends,” “local manufacturers,” “competition,” and “climate,” and you attempt some less common expressions such as “the essence” and “substantial factors.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “purchase merchants from them” does not clearly express what fans buy, and “local goods are leaving behind” is not a natural way to describe their declining position. There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “Globlization,” “costumers,” and “substancial.” Build a more reliable range of topic vocabulary and check that each chosen word fits its intended meaning and grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and subordinate clauses, as in “If the fashion trends is about wearing winter clothes…” and “while some people think…”. This shows an effort to express relationships between ideas, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make sentences difficult to follow. Examples include subject–verb disagreement in “the fashion trends is,” the awkward construction “the way on how people dress,” and the sentence fragment-like phrasing “the way people dress should be appropriate in the weather.” Punctuation also needs attention: the comma splice and capitalisation in “sunny season, If…” and the comma before “There” in the conclusion disrupt sentence boundaries. Practise accurate clause construction, agreement, and punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
