Many aspects of the way people dress today are influenced by global fashion trends.

How has global fashion become such a strong influence on people's lives? Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Global fashion has become the essential part of every individual. Because nowadays people are judged by the dressing sense of the individual. A person not following the trend will be considered old school. In my opinion, it is a positive development because the first impression of the person is his/her dressing sense which is mattered most in the professional career.

Social media has played a vital role on people's lives the way they dressed nowadays according to the trend. People follow multiple influencers according to their likes and then follow the dressing sense of him/her. Which is a good thing because it helps people to look more good and to grow more in their professional career. For example, Last year my brother went to one job interview in a simple dress called "Shalwar Kameez", ad he got rejected due to his dressing sense. However, his friend went there in a proper suit and secured a job there. So the global fashion has become essential part of every individual now.

The negative aspect of this development is that some people went into sense of inferiority complex. Which can lead of depression because they can't afford that living which their influencers are living. This can lead to multiple negative effects on person brain and body. For instance, whenever I was in my college, I can not able to buy the suits my friends wore. which can lead to stress.

To conclude, Global fashion has strong inflence on people lives the way they dressed nowadays according to the trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear positive view in the introduction and explain one way global fashion spreads: people copy influencers on social media. The interview example also supports your point that clothing can affect professional impressions. However, the response only partly develops the question. The explanation of how fashion became influential is mostly limited to social media, while the conclusion repeats the topic rather than summarising your position. Your discussion also shifts to the negative effects of unaffordable trends without clearly reconciling this with your overall positive judgement. Develop both parts more fully, and explain why the benefits outweigh the drawbacks if that is your view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for social media and a drawback, and a concluding sentence. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “However,” and “To conclude” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is limited: the conclusion largely repeats the opening, and the positive and negative points are not connected to a clear overall argument. Some sentence openings are fragments, such as “Which is a good thing” and “Which can lead of depression,” making the links between ideas less clear. Use complete sentences and clearer transitions to show how each example supports your position, and make the conclusion synthesise rather than repeat.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “global fashion,” “influencers,” “professional career,” and “inferiority complex,” and the examples make your meaning generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, particularly repeated references to “dressing sense” and “trend.” Some collocations and word choices are unnatural, such as “look more good,” “went into sense of inferiority complex,” and “negative effects on person brain and body.” Spelling errors such as “inflence” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of natural phrases for describing influence, appearance, and social pressure, and check spelling and collocations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use basic connectors to express cause, contrast, and examples. However, the range of structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in both simple and complex sentences. For example, “the first impression … is his/her dressing sense which is mattered most” has problems with clause structure and verb form; “my brother went … and he got rejected” is understandable, but the surrounding sentence contains a likely typing error and lacks accurate control. Other examples include “people are judged by the dressing sense” and “I can not able to buy,” which show problems with articles and verb patterns. Practise accurate sentence construction, especially subject–verb patterns, articles, and complete clauses.
