Student answer (Band 6.0)
Following fashion trends that are popular worldwide influences the way people dress up themselves in today's world. Though admiring the latest trends and following them informs people about ongoing trends, I believe this is largely a negative development as it promotes idealized lifestyles and makes people more status-conscious.
The fashion trends that are famous around the world influence people in a way that they consider it a necessity rather than solely considering it a trend.First and foremost, why it has such a strong impact on people's lives is for the reason that everybody wants to stand out in places- such as events, parties, and concerts. Furthermore, girls desire to become trend setters, in order to be seen and noticed. There is an unexplainable satisfaction in being noticed by the strangers, or receiving compliments from random people, which eventually leads to trends raising the bar in the fashion industry. For instance, every season around the globe follows a specific pattern in which different fashion trends become conspicuous , such as the latest fashion era of flared pants raised extreme debate about whether it is worth it or not on social media.
Despite informing the public about the ongoing trends, I consider it a negative development. It promotes idealized lifestyles and consumerism. Eventually, everybody ends up following the trends because they have the fear of missing out. For example, when wide-leg pants came out in fashion, girls started purchasing it without even knowing that it suited a particular body type. So, following trends might also be only to show that you are aware of fashion. Additionally, people have also become status-conscious, and they want to buy every costly thing to maintain their fashion standard, and to show off their belongings. Social media is also partly responsible for promoting this status- conscious behaviour.
To conclude, global fashion trends are a thing in this era, but the expectations as well as negative behaviour, and consumerism that it has resulted in has an overall negative impact on the society..

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your response addresses both parts of the question: you explain the influence through the desire to stand out, gain attention and keep up with trends, and you clearly judge the development as negative. The examples of wide-leg pants and social media help make your position relevant. However, the explanation of how global fashion became influential is less fully developed than your discussion of its disadvantages. For instance, the point about wanting compliments is plausible, but you could explain more directly how international media, celebrities, or online platforms spread trends across countries. Some claims, such as that a particular style suits only one body type, are asserted rather than supported. Develop the causes and examples more precisely to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs discuss influence and its negative effects, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “For instance,” and “Additionally” help signal relationships between ideas. At times, however, the progression is mechanical or the connection between points is not fully clear. The first body paragraph moves from standing out to becoming a trendsetter, then to compliments and seasonal trends without explaining each transition. The conclusion also introduces “expectations” without developing that idea earlier. Improve cohesion by grouping related points and using clearer references, while avoiding repeated transitions that simply announce another point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “idealized lifestyles,” “consumerism,” “status-conscious,” and “fear of missing out.” These choices communicate your main ideas and show some willingness to use less common expressions. Some wording is imprecise or unnatural, however, such as “fashion trends that are famous around the world,” “trend setters,” and “fashion standard.” There is also repetition of “trends” and “fashion,” particularly in the opening and first body paragraph, which limits flexibility. Aim for more precise collocations and vary references to the subject—for example, use terms such as “international styles,” “fashion cycles,” or “social status” where appropriate. Check spacing and punctuation around words as well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “Though admiring the latest trends…” and a conditional structure in “when wide-leg pants came out in fashion.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are noticeable. For example, “the way people dress up themselves” has an awkward reflexive construction, and “why it has such a strong impact … is for the reason that” is unnecessarily complicated. In “the expectations … and consumerism … has,” the plural subject requires a plural verb. Several sentences also run together because spaces after full stops are missing, and the final sentence has an extra full stop. Simplifying awkward clauses and proofreading agreement and punctuation would improve control.
