Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You take a clear negative position and give relevant reasons: pressure on teenagers and the effects of disposable clothing on the environment and living costs. The examples about young people relying on parents and clothes being discarded help connect these points to people’s lives. However, the task also asks how global fashion became such a strong influence, and this part is not really explained. You mention that trends change frequently, but do not identify the forces that spread them, such as social media, celebrities, or international brands. The consequences are more developed than the explanation of influence, and some claims, such as fashion causing “anger issue,” are unclear. Develop both parts of the question with specific explanations and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate negative effects, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Similarly,” and “Therefore” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within sentences and paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, and some links feel mechanical. For example, the second body paragraph moves from changing trends to waste and then to living costs without clearly explaining each connection. References such as “it” and “they” are not always precise, while the conclusion repeats several points rather than synthesising them. Use clearer topic sentences and make each cause-and-effect step explicit so the reader can follow the argument more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “global fashion trends,” “fashionable,” “landfills,” and “environment,” and you attempt phrases such as “living standard” and “negative mindset.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make meaning unclear. For example, “global has been changing” does not specify what is changing, and “anger issue regarding mindset” is not a natural way to describe the effect on young people. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “demostrates,” “monetory,” and “enviornmnet.” Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. More specific vocabulary for the causes of influence would also help you explain the topic fully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including cause-and-effect structures with “due to” and “resulting,” and a contrast introduced by “but.” However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty, which sometimes makes the relationships between ideas hard to understand. Examples include “The way people dress in current generation are influenced,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “Many teenagers are not be able to purchase,” which has an incorrect verb form. Other problems include “global fashion having a strong influence … lead” and “new trends … are produced and purchase,” where verb forms and agreement are inaccurate. Practise building shorter, accurate sentences first, then combine them using controlled subordinate clauses.
