Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that the way prople dress today are influenced by global fashion trends. Global fashion trends are now play as a crucial role around the world. People often buy something that they often see on social medias. I think this is a positive development on people around the world.

On one hand, fashion trends are a great pathway for new fashion compaines and designers. By looking at the trends, it gives them some ideas to develope their business and have more ideas on clothing productions. Following the trends means that they will have greater chance of success than the ones who do not. As for me, I tried to sell some trendy clothes at my school market. As a result, my shop made 50% more sale than other local shops which is nearly half of sale.

Moreover, by following fashion trends, people from around the world will have similar fashions which makes them think that everyone can have the same taste no matter who they are or where they are from. Furthermore, there will be less discriminations caused by citizens as fashion is a way of showing them what unity is. For example, people who follow the same trend are more likely to become friends as they have same taste for a certain things, which can give them more opportunities to become closer than normal friendships.

In conclusion, I believe global fashion has a positive development as they could improve both country's economy and change people's mindsets.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You state a clear view that global fashion is a positive development and give relevant reasons, including business opportunities and social connection. However, the task asks both how global fashion became influential and whether this is positive or negative. Your response mainly explains why it may be beneficial; it gives little account of the causes of its influence, such as social media, advertising, celebrities, or international brands. The opening mention of people seeing items on social media is not developed. The examples about your school-market sales and friendships are relevant but need clearer explanation and support. The response is also 242 words, below the required 250-word minimum; the eight words copied from the prompt are not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally focus on one main point, and signposts such as “Moreover” and “In conclusion” help the reader follow the argument. However, progression is not always clear: the first paragraph briefly mentions social media as a cause, but the body paragraphs shift to benefits without explaining that influence. Some links between claims are abrupt, particularly the move from similar fashion to “less discriminations” and unity. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as in “they could improve both country's economy,” where the subject and intended meaning are difficult to identify. Develop each paragraph around a clear claim and connect examples explicitly to it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “global fashion trends,” “designers,” “clothing productions,” “unity,” and “mindsets,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems that make some phrases awkward or unclear, such as “prople,” “compaines,” “develope,” and “50% more sale.” Several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, including “a great pathway for new fashion companies” and “change people's mindsets.” Aim for more accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe fashion as creating “opportunities for emerging designers,” and say that a shop “made 50% more sales” or “increased sales by 50%.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “which” and “as,” and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and plurals occur across the response. For example, “the way people dress today are influenced” should use a singular verb, while “are now play” combines incompatible verb forms. In “it gives them some ideas,” the opening phrase does not fit the pronoun clearly, and “they have same taste” needs an article. The conclusion, “global fashion has a positive development,” also has an unclear grammatical relationship. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and sentence structure, and read each sentence aloud to identify missing words and awkward clause connections.
