Student answer (Band 6.0)
Whether Global fashion trends has caused negative or positive developments has always been a debate. But, global fashion trends have put a substantial impact on the dress of people and how they carry it. It has created awareness in the individuals who had become more conscious about their fashion sense.
As far as positive aspects are concerned, a good dressing boosts confidence, self esteem and self-satisfaction. An individual becomes more well updated about the trends. For example, college and university students tend to follow every fashion trend to look more groomed and cool. Unlike past, people used to wear any thing according to their taste but nowadays mostly dressing sense is shaped by the global fashion trend. People are investing a large amount in order to fit in so called modern society. Ultimately, it has caused a dramatic surge in revenues of overall fashion industry.
On the other hand, consumption of significant budget in the fashion industry is not an intellectual act. It must be used properly on other factors that can cause overall growth of country's economy. Nowadays, young generation is just wasting their precious time in learning and adopting weird kind of fashion instead of focusing on their grades. It has also created a gap between middle class society and elite class, disturbing the social harmony and promotes business in the community.
In conclusion, although there exists both negative and positive aspects of following the global fashion trends, but I believe that negative consequences of adopting unnecessary trends lead to more problems in our society as it affects the budget, distract the youth and disturbs social harmony.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both parts of the prompt: you discuss why fashion trends matter and give a clear overall view that their effects are more negative. Your points about confidence, spending, young people’s studies and social divisions are relevant. However, the explanation of how global fashion became influential is only partly developed. You mention students following trends and society being shaped by them, but do not explain the mechanisms behind this influence, such as social media, advertising, celebrities or international brands. Several claims, including that fashion spending harms the economy and creates social disharmony, are asserted rather than supported with specific reasoning or examples. Develop the causes and illustrate your main claims to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting positive aspects, a paragraph focused on disadvantages, and a conclusion that restates your position. The contrast marker “On the other hand” helps signal the shift in argument, and the ideas are generally understandable in their paragraphs. Cohesion is sometimes mechanical, however, with repeated references to “global fashion trends” and several claims placed next to one another without showing their relationship. For example, the point about industry revenues is followed by a separate criticism of spending without a clear transition explaining the contrast. Use more precise referencing and connect each example to the claim it supports; this would make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “self-esteem,” “fashion industry,” “social harmony” and “dramatic surge in revenues.” These choices help communicate your ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, though: “put a substantial impact” would normally be “had a substantial influence,” while “more well updated” and “consumption of significant budget” are awkward. Phrases such as “weird kind of fashion” are also informal and imprecise for an academic essay. Aim for natural collocations and more exact wording, particularly when describing causes and consequences. This will make your argument sound more controlled without requiring unnecessarily complicated vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the conclusion and clauses introduced by “who” and “instead of.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “Whether Global fashion trends has caused” has subject–verb disagreement, and “people used to wear any thing” needs more accurate sentence construction and punctuation. The conclusion’s “although … but” uses two contrasting structures together, and “it affects the budget, distract the youth and disturbs” has inconsistent verb forms. Check agreement, articles, and parallel structure, and revise sentences aloud to catch these patterns. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen the response.
