Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, global fashion trends are greatly influence how people dress. In my opinion, I think that it is a negative development. Because this trend influence people to buy clothes that sometimes are expensive to bear for them financially.

First and foremost, many people get influenced by those global fashion brand trand through social media. Particularly the girls and the teenegers often get incluence and spend their entire money on buying those clothes that even not that nessasary to purchase. For example, when any influencer wear trendy clothes or promote them, most of the fans are copying that and decide to purchase and wear it. As a result, this kind of way those fashion brand has such strong influence on public.

Futhermore, the ads on social media and televissions influence people to own those fashionable dress. For example, Most of the social media company has people's data, so when those fashion brand pay to run ads on social media, it's become easier for them to get customer according to people's social platform footprint. And also when people watching someting on televission such as their favourite football team match, news or movies whatever, people can see thses ads that sometimes influence people to buy that. And most of the time they sell these fashion trendy clothes with higher prices and ripping people off. These consumption more likely make people financially broke. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear negative opinion and address both why global fashion is influential and whether this is a positive or negative development. The discussion of influencers, targeted advertising and the financial pressure to buy expensive clothes is relevant, with examples such as fans copying an influencer and ads based on users’ online activity. However, the explanation is only partly developed: the effects are mostly repeated as financial harm, and the conclusion is cut off, so it does not fully restate your view or bring the response to a complete close. To strengthen the response, explain the mechanisms and consequences more fully, and finish with a complete conclusion that directly answers both parts of the question.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and an attempted conclusion. Paragraphs generally group related points, and signposts such as “First and foremost,” “Furthermore” and “As a result” help show relationships between ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear: the second body paragraph moves from targeted advertising to television, high prices and companies launching new trends without clearly connecting each step. Some linking phrases are repetitive, and the final sentence is incomplete, leaving the overall argument without a clear ending. Organise each paragraph around one main point, use references that make the links between sentences explicit, and complete the conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “global fashion trends,” “influencer,” “promote,” “ads” and “financially.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited and several inaccurate or misspelled expressions make the writing less clear. Examples include “fashion brand trand,” “get incluence,” “nessasary,” and “ripping people off”; some phrases are also unnatural, such as “spend their entire money” and “fashionable dress.” Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms for targeted marketing and consumer spending would also help you explain how fashion trends influence people without relying on repeated forms of “influence” and “buy.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a conditional-style explanation of how brands use social-media data. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement and articles sometimes make the reader work to understand your meaning. For example, “global fashion trends are greatly influence” has an incorrect verb form, while “when people watching” is missing a finite verb. In “most of the social media company has people's data,” the subject and verb do not agree. The opening fragment beginning “Because” and the unfinished conclusion also affect sentence completeness. Practise building accurate complex sentences, checking that every clause has a subject and verb, and reviewing agreement and articles.
