Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's modern world, global fashion has become an important an important of people's lives, influencing their clothing choices and personal styles. This trend has significantaly due to social media, celebrities and higher brands. In my opinion, global fashion has some drawbacks but it is largely a positive development.

On the one hand, there are several reasons why global fahion is so influential in recent years. Firstly, the development of social media platforms such as instgram, tiktok and facebook has made it so easier to people to follow the recent fashion trends around the world. Fashion influencers and celebrities shares their stylish dresses which is really liked by their followers. In this way people started to dressed up by looking themselves. Secondly, intenational brands are making fashionable clothes more accessible in the whole world such as ZARA and H&M offer a wide range of modern clothing.

On the other hand, there are also some drawbacks associated with this trend. Many individuals spend a large amount of money just to follow trending designs and it is very adverse especially for those who has low income. Additionally, many people feel pressured to wear fashionable dresses in order to gain social acceptance.

In conclusion, global fashion has become a strong influence on people's lives mainly because of social media, celebrities and international clothing brands. Although it can encourage unnecessary spending and social pressure I believe its benefits such as promoting creativity, cultural exchange and personal expression.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: you identify social media, celebrities and international brands as sources of influence, and you state that fashion is largely positive despite drawbacks. The examples of Instagram, TikTok, Zara and H&M are relevant. However, the explanation of how these influences affect people is brief, and the positive side is not developed as fully as the drawbacks: creativity, cultural exchange and personal expression appear only in the conclusion. The response therefore covers the task, but some ideas remain under-developed. It is also 7 words below the required minimum, so there is limited space for the explanation and support needed. Develop each main point with a specific example and explain its effect on people’s lives.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the causes and drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from social media to brands, then to disadvantages, is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help signal the structure, and this organisation is a strength. To make the cohesion more flexible and precise, avoid relying mainly on these formulaic transitions and connect claims more explicitly. For example, explain how influencers’ posts lead followers to adopt particular styles before moving to the effect of international brands. The conclusion also introduces benefits that have not been explained in the body, which weakens the connection between the main discussion and the final position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “fashion trends,” “social acceptance,” “international brands” and “personal expression.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and there is some attempt to use more specific language than basic terms such as “clothes.” However, the range is limited and several spelling, word-form and collocation errors reduce accuracy: “significantaly,” “fahion,” “intenational,” and “stylish dresses” are examples. Phrases such as “it is very adverse” and “dressed up by looking themselves” are also unclear or unnatural. Aim to learn common collocations for fashion and consumer behaviour, and proofread spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you express the causes and effects with greater clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a contrast clause in “Although it can encourage unnecessary spending and social pressure…” and a relative clause in “clothes… which is really liked by their followers.” However, errors in sentence structure, verb forms and agreement are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to read. For example, “has become an important an important of people’s lives” is structurally incomplete, while “influencers and celebrities shares” and “people started to dressed up” contain agreement and verb-form problems. The final sentence beginning “Although” is also incomplete because it lacks a main clause. Practise checking each sentence for a complete subject and verb, correct agreement, and a clear main clause, while continuing to use varied sentence forms.
