Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's modern world, widespread changes in global fashion industry has strongly influenced the people's dressing and their lifestyles while some argue that these trends create differences in society and people become status conscious. I totally agree that global fashions badly influenced the people's lives and its a negative development.

There are several reasons which indicates why global fashions badly influence people's lives. Firstly, it create differences in society. People judge on the basis of their clothes and always made gossips of new arrival trend. Secondly, spending excessive money on new fashion trends is not worthful and many people just bought new clothes only for impression in the society. For instance, according to recent studies, middle class people when bought

expensive and trending article, then it feels very satisfied and immediately try to compare ourself by others.

In the late centuries, life is simple and there is no culture of global fashions. People just wore normal and economical clothes. However, now high and elite class communites always prefer to buy things from brands. When they go to party or wedding, then they compare our dress with other one and judge people's wealth according to their dresses. Especially middle class people badly infuenced by brands and waste their hard earn money for impressions and comparisons in society. According to recent studies, that global fashion trend badly affect the women rather than men.

In the conclusion, global fashions badly influenced people's lives and these factors create biasness, discriminiation in society and many people become self-obsessed and status conscious.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you consider global fashion a negative influence, and you give relevant concerns about social comparison, status-consciousness and spending. However, the response only partly answers the question because it explains why fashion trends may be harmful more than how they became such a strong influence. The second paragraph offers a few possible effects, but the causes of fashion’s reach—such as social media, advertising, celebrities or international brands—are not explained. Several points also remain general: the claim that trends affect women more than men is not supported, and the “recent studies” examples are vague. Develop each main idea with a specific explanation or credible example, and address both parts of the prompt more evenly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly” and “However” help identify the direction of ideas. Nevertheless, progression is limited because the body paragraphs repeat the same concerns about brands, comparison and social status rather than building distinct points. Some links are also unclear: the shift from historical clothing habits to present-day class comparisons is abrupt, and “According to recent studies” does not clearly connect to a specific piece of evidence. Organise the body around separate answers to the prompt—for example, causes of fashion’s influence and its effects—and use clearer references and transitions to show how each example supports the point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “global fashion trends,” “status conscious,” “brands,” “discrimination” and “compare,” so the reader can follow your general argument. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes meaning less clear. Examples include “worthful,” “made gossips,” “new arrival trend” and “hard earn money”; “badly influenced” is also repeated frequently. Spelling and word-form errors such as “communit es,” “infuenced” and “biasness” further reduce precision. Build a more varied set of expressions for causes and consequences, and check whether words naturally combine in English. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish social pressure, consumer spending and personal identity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “while,” “when” and “however.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in basic sentence patterns as well as in more complex attempts. For example, “changes … has” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “it create differences” and “people just bought” show problems with agreement and tense. Articles and pronouns are also unreliable in phrases such as “the people's dressing” and “compare ourself by others.” Some sentences, particularly the example beginning “according to recent studies,” are difficult to follow because their clause structure is incomplete or confused. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, consistent tense, and clear clause construction before adding more complex sentences.
