tell your relative how to get from the train station to your house

Student answer (Band 6.0)
Hello Rahul,
I am glad and happy to welcome you.
Unfortunately I could not able to pick you up from the station, as I have a rush up early to the office due to some projects and couple of meetings. However, I have left the keys below the door mat so that you can unlock the door and relax yourself.
Furthermore, when you arrive on the waterfront station, take a train to metrotown and get down at oak Street. After getting out of station, you will see a pizza store just take a lane beside it and you will see the 3rd house towards left or just google 5261 Somerville street.
I will be coming back at 6 pm and I will try to be early if possible. In addition, I have reserve a table at one my favorite restaurant so we will have a dinner at 8 sharp. Later we will go to a pub and have some drinks, enjoy some music and moreover we will be back before 11pm.
Hope to see you soon and please do not mind.
Thank you.
Best regards,
Sarfaraz

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three required points clearly. You explain that the keys are under the doormat, give a route from the station using Metrotown, Oak Street, and a nearby pizza shop, and say you expect to return at 6 p.m. You also suggest dinner at a restaurant followed by a visit to a pub, so the reader has a clear picture of the evening. The practical details make the message useful and relevant. Some arrangements could be more fully explained: for example, clarify how the train journey from the waterfront station works and give a little more detail about the house location beyond the street address. Overall, the task is covered effectively, with a few details that could be clearer or more developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a sensible order: it first explains why you cannot meet Rahul, then gives the key and travel arrangements, and finally describes your return and evening plans. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these topics, and the greeting and sign-off suit a personal letter. However, some linking is mechanical or awkward. “Furthermore” and “In addition” introduce straightforward new points where a simpler transition would sound more natural, while “moreover” is not a clear fit for the sequence of evening activities. The directions also run together in one long sentence, making the steps harder to follow. Use shorter sentences for the route and connect events in a clear time order to make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes useful, specific terms such as “station,” “keys,” “door mat,” “restaurant,” and “pub.” The reader can understand the arrangements and plans without difficulty. You also attempt a range of expressions, but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, including “rush up early,” “relax yourself,” and “have a dinner.” “I am glad and happy” repeats the same idea, and “please do not mind” does not clearly express what you intend. These choices limit precision and naturalness, although the message remains understandable. Aim for familiar, accurate collocations rather than adding formal-sounding connectors or phrases that do not fit the context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the reason clause beginning “as” and the time clause “when you arrive.” The main information is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “I could not able to pick you up” combines incompatible verb forms; use “I could not pick you up” or “I was not able to pick you up.” In “I have reserve a table,” the verb form should be “have reserved,” and “at one my favorite restaurant” needs “at one of my favorite restaurants.” There are also missing articles and awkward sentence boundaries in the directions. Check verb forms, articles, and sentence punctuation, especially when joining several instructions in one sentence.
