Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear John,
I am writing this letter to express my feeling when heard you are visiting next month, i really feel a delightful you will complete your promise made in our childhood time.
unfortunately, on your arrival time, i would be not at airport for pickup you because an important meeting with overseas clients is held on same day, which i have to attend at any circumstances, even my manager has given one month notice earlier.
But, there is not worried about anything, i have booked a taxi with DECA 226 for you to pick up at airport on time. Otherwise, if you are comfortable with train service, also train station is right side of airport. Moreover, i will attach a map with this mail that guides you how to get train.
I have already planned a lot if things in advance, i really want to spend time with you and rememorize all childhood memories. Also, i will cook your favorite meal in evening and watch a horror movie on Netflix.
I Look forward to a hearing from you,
Your faithfully,
Naveen.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining the key arrangements, providing directions, and suggesting evening activities. However, there is a significant misunderstanding of the task instructions. The prompt specifies the relative is arriving by train, but your response repeatedly mentions an airport and a taxi. This inconsistency makes the response confusing. While you have covered the required points, the content is not fully relevant to the specific scenario provided. To improve, ensure you read the prompt details carefully to align your response with the given context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'But', 'Moreover', and 'Also' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and some mechanical use of transitions. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where you mention an airport despite the prompt stating the relative arrives by train. Improving the logical progression between sentences and ensuring that your cohesive devices are used more naturally would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message. You attempt to use some descriptive language, such as 'delightful' and 'rememorize', though 'rememorize' is not standard English. There are also some word choice errors, such as 'express my feeling' instead of 'express my feelings' and 'at any circumstances' instead of 'under any circumstances'. While the range is sufficient to convey your meaning, the errors in collocation and word form prevent a higher score. Focusing on learning common collocations will help you sound more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'i really feel a delightful' (missing verb/adjective structure), 'i would be not at airport' (incorrect word order), and 'there is not worried about anything' (incorrect construction). Additionally, there are consistent issues with capitalization of the pronoun 'I' and punctuation. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. You should focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and consistent capitalization to improve your accuracy.
