Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Aman,
I hope you're doing well. Its been ages since we caught up last time. I'm glad that you are visiting next Monday to spend some quality time with me. Unfortunately, I've an emergency and I'll be back by eight in the evening.
For your convenience I've schedule a uber and the driver will be waiting outside in a black Camry. I've given all of your information to him so basically you just need to tell him your name and he will drop at my house. Moreover, the keys can be find in a lockbox installed outside of my place you can just enter 4545 and get access of the house until I come.
Hopefully I will be home by 8 PM and I'll take you to a renowned restaurant for dinner that's my favorite one in Windsor. Additionally, you know the new Punjabi that just released I've bought two tickets for night.
I will be very happy to see you after a long time. See you then.
Best wishes,
Gurmeet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the key arrangements, provided instructions for the journey from the station, and specified your arrival time along with a suggestion for the evening. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member, maintaining a friendly and personal register throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader knows exactly what to expect. To reach a higher band, ensure that all instructions are grammatically precise, as minor errors in the explanation of the lockbox location slightly affect the clarity of the instructions provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the visit. You use transition words such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'Hopefully' to guide the reader through the text. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the arrival logistics to the evening plans. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different topics. To improve, ensure that referencing is always precise; for example, 'the new Punjabi that just released' is slightly ambiguous, as it is unclear if you are referring to a movie or a concert. Strengthening these links will improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'convenience', 'renowned', and 'emergency' appropriately. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'get access of the house' (should be 'get access to') and 'the keys can be find' (should be 'found'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more attention to verb forms and prepositional usage. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural collocations would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for a letter. However, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'Its been ages' (should be 'It's'), 'I've schedule a uber' (should be 'scheduled' and 'an uber'), and 'the new Punjabi that just released' (should be 'was released'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and passive voice constructions. Proofreading for these small errors would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
