Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points: key arrangements, directions, and evening plans. However, the letter is under the 150-word minimum, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. The instructions regarding the directions are quite vague, as you only mention booking a cab without explaining the route or how the relative gets from the station to the house. To improve, you should provide more descriptive details to fully develop each point. Because the response is under-length and some points are underdeveloped, it does not fully meet the requirements for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the sequence of events. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the cab arrangement and the key handover is abrupt. While the paragraphing is clear, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition'). The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure feels a bit disjointed due to the brevity of the paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'amiable' and 'urgent'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'It's been ages we met' (should be 'since we met') and 'hailing distance' (which is not a standard idiom). Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'Unfortunatley' and 'enoy'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary is used accurately in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'I gonna be a long day' (missing 'it is'), 'she is always remain at home' (incorrect verb form), and 'sometimes she just pop out' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses will help improve your accuracy.
