explain arrangements you have made for them to have keys and get into the house
tell your relative how to get from the train station to your house
say when you will be home and suggest what you could do together that evening
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Raha,
I hope you are doing well. I am really excited to know that we will be staying together at my home for few days. But, unfortunately, I have to attend seminar, So I would not able to welcome you when you arrive by train in the morning.
Do not be worry about getting into the house, I have already made arrangements for that. I have left keys with my next door neighbor, Mrs. Mistry who knows that you are coming, so just knock the door and she will give you the key. After you have getting in the house, you can put your luggage into guest room and stay relax at home.
Now, I will give you some ideas that how to reach my home after coming out from railway station. Firstly, you can get BRTS, as you leave railway station and catch the bus number 118 and get off the Honey park Society stop. After five minutes of walk , you can reach at my home. Secondly, you can also take taxi or auto directly from the station.
I will be coming around 6:00pm at evening. Then we would go to nearby restaurant for dinner and than take a relaxing walk in park. It will be great opportunity to spend some time together after long periods. See you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Divya Mistry

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the key arrangement with your neighbor, provided specific directions from the train station, and outlined your evening plans. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that you provide slightly more detail in your explanations; for instance, you could have mentioned the specific name of the restaurant or the park to make the plans feel more concrete and personal. Overall, the task is fully completed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use transition words such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Then' to guide the reader through the information. However, some of the cohesive devices are used in a slightly mechanical way, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the transition between the key arrangement and the house entry. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help elevate the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'arrangements', 'luggage', and 'opportunity'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'stay relax' instead of 'relax' or 'get BRTS' instead of 'take the BRTS'. Additionally, the phrase 'after long periods' is slightly unnatural; 'after such a long time' would be more idiomatic. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'I have to attend seminar' (missing an article), 'I would not able to' (missing 'be'), 'Do not be worry' (should be 'Do not worry'), and 'than take a relaxing walk' (should be 'then'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and correct verb forms will significantly improve your accuracy.
