Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points: key arrangements, directions, and evening plans. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the directions from the station to the house are missing; you mention a friend will pick her up, but you do not explain how the relative should navigate or meet this person. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a sister, though the content is slightly repetitive in the second paragraph. To improve, ensure each bullet point is fully explained with specific details rather than just mentioning them briefly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is divided into two paragraphs, which is a reasonable structure. However, the flow of ideas is occasionally disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is basic and sometimes repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'and' to connect clauses. The transition between the arrival arrangements and the evening plans is abrupt. To achieve a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') to create a smoother progression of ideas between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'tommorow', 'morining', 'neigbour', 'famouse', and 'theatre'. Additionally, some word choices are unnatural, such as 'go at busi restaurant' and 'go in the theatre'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited to common, everyday words. To improve, focus on learning correct spellings and more natural collocations for social arrangements, such as 'dine at a restaurant' or 'catch a movie'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('I knew you are arriving'), missing articles ('at the station'), and awkward phrasing ('I will come around 6pm at home'). There are also punctuation errors, such as the lack of commas in long, run-on sentences. The sentence structure is often repetitive, relying heavily on 'I will' or 'we will'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and varying your sentence structures to include more complex forms.
