Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sana,
I hope to find you in good health. I am writing to give you some instructions regarding your visit to my home. on Friday, 7th August. Unfortunately, I won't be available at home at your arrival because of my work. As you know, my office timings are from 10 am to 6 pm. Due to this, I made some arrangements for you on that day. I will hand the extra keys to my neighbours on the right side.
Furthermore, I booked a taxi for you to reach my accommodation. In fact, I am planning to cook your favourite Italian pasta in the morning before commuting to work. I am excited to meet you after two years, but our bond stayed the same as before and you are the best cousin ever.
I would like to take you to dinner at a famous restaurant in my hometown, which is well-known for its food, ambience and great vibes. In the evening, before dinner, we could also go to the temple, which we used to go before you shifted to other town. I am really excited to spend some quality time with you and travel safely.
Hope to see you soon.
Yours lovingly,
Simrat

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt effectively. You clearly explained the key arrangements, provided instructions for the taxi, and suggested evening activities. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member. However, there is a slight logical inconsistency: you mention cooking pasta in the morning, but you also state you will be at work from 10 am to 6 pm, which makes the timing of the meal preparation slightly confusing. Despite this minor point, the task is fully covered with relevant and well-developed ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In fact', and 'In the evening' to guide the reader through the text. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the logistics of the keys and transport to the plans for the evening. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics. The flow is natural and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for a semi-formal/informal letter. Phrases like 'in good health', 'ambience', and 'quality time' are used effectively. There are a few minor collocation issues, such as 'my office timings are' (more naturally 'my working hours are') and 'shifted to other town' (should be 'moved to another town'). However, these errors do not impede communication, and your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message with precision and style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I am planning to cook your favourite Italian pasta in the morning before commuting to work.' There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'I won't be available at home at your arrival' (should be 'for your arrival') and 'which we used to go' (should be 'which we used to go to'). Punctuation is generally accurate, though there is a stray period after 'home' in the first paragraph. Overall, the majority of your sentences are error-free.
