Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Dhruv,
I am very excited to see you tomorrow but unfortunately I will come home at the evening as I have one emergency client meeting in the morning.
To begin with, Although I will not be coming home until the evening, you can have access to my home as I am going provide keys to my neighbor, whom you already know. In addition, you have to just press "xxx" which is a passcode to unlock my room.
while there are many commuting options available from the railway station to reach my home, I will suggest you to book a ride with Uber as it is safe travel mode. Furthermore, please be very careful with local auto drivers they will charge you extra money.
In addition, I already have made some plans for the night. Firstly, we will have a great dinner at my favorite place. Later, we will watch a famous movie "Dhurandhar" released on 5th August.
I cannot wait to see you. If you face any problems while travelling, do not hesitate to contact me.
Best Regards,
Dhruv Bavadiya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt effectively. You clearly explained the key arrangements involving your neighbor, provided specific advice on transport from the station, and outlined your evening plans. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the scenario provided. To reach a higher band, ensure that all instructions are followed precisely; for instance, you mentioned a passcode for your room, which is a creative addition, but ensure the primary instructions (keys/access) remain the focus. Overall, the task is fully satisfied.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'In addition,' 'Furthermore,' and 'Firstly.' While these are generally used correctly, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the instructions. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the reader can easily follow your instructions regarding the keys and the travel advice. To improve, try to vary the sentence starters to make the flow feel more natural and less like a list of points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'commuting options,' 'emergency client meeting,' and 'hesitate.' There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'I will come home at the evening' (should be 'in the evening') and 'safe travel mode' (should be 'a safe mode of travel'). You also use 'Dhurandhar' effectively to add detail. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, though it lacks the more sophisticated or idiomatic collocations that would characterize a higher band score. Focus on refining prepositions and natural phrasing to enhance precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional 'If you face any problems...' and the concessive 'Although I will not be coming home...'. However, there are several grammatical errors, including 'I am going provide' (missing 'to'), 'I will suggest you to book' (should be 'I suggest you book'), and 'I already have made' (should be 'I have already made'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to verb patterns and auxiliary verbs. Increasing the accuracy of these basic structures will help you achieve a higher score.
