Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear charan,

I am writing this letter in regard to inform you that I will be not home, when you will arrive at my house.

However, I will not only give house keys to my neighbour but also he will help you to get enter the house. He is my trustworthy neighbour, so when you arrive just call him.

Moreover, public transport is now simple and improved in my city, You need to take bus no. 10 from the railway station and get off at last stop. It is just five minutes from the bus stop.

Also, I have work meeting this evening and that's the reason for not coming you from station. Nevertheless, I will be home around 7pm. We will go to a renowned Indian restaurant this evening because they make many delicious cuisines as well as their hostipitality is great.

I hope you will be home without any inconvenience.

Best regards,

Kuljit singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining the key arrangements, providing directions from the station, and suggesting an evening activity. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of the key arrangements is clear, but the directions could be more detailed to ensure the relative does not get lost. To improve, ensure that each point is fully expanded with sufficient detail to make the communication feel natural and helpful. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of information provided is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'Nevertheless' to link your ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes slightly mechanical or unnatural in context. For example, 'Nevertheless' is used to introduce the time you will be home, which does not quite fit the contrastive function of the word. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that cohesive devices are used to enhance the logical progression of your ideas will help you achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'public transport', 'renowned', and 'hospitality'. However, there are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'get enter the house' (should be 'get into the house') and 'coming you from station' (should be 'picking you up from the station'). There is also a spelling error: 'hostipitality'. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and checking your spelling. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise descriptive language would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text. Examples include 'I will be not home' (should be 'I will not be home'), 'when you will arrive' (should be 'when you arrive'), and 'I have work meeting' (should be 'I have a work meeting'). These errors are frequent but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To reach a higher band, you should focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that your complex sentence structures are grammatically sound.
