Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mother,
I am so happy you are coming to stay with me. When you told me that you were coming to me. I felt over the moon. I have made lots of plans for how we would spend time together. I have booked movie tickets for Saturday night, and we will also enjoy dinner at a restaurant that has recently reopened. It is a Punjabi restaurant. I know you love it. We will do some shopping in the mall. My friends are also eager to meet you. One of my friends has already invited you to her home for lunch.
As your train is departing in the morning at that time, I will not be at home because I have an important meeting, but you do not need to worry; my friend Sandeep will pick you up from the station because she is free all day and will also give you company till evening. I will prepare your favorite food before going to work after taking some rest; Sandeep and you can have breakfast.
I will come in the evening. I have some plans for the evening. There is a very beautiful park stone's throw from my home; we will go there and have a walk after dinner. We will also watch a Punjabi movie till late at night because I have gotten a holiday for 2 days to spend quality time with you. I love you, mother, and waiting for you.
Best regards,
Your daughter Kuldeep.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained the key arrangements by mentioning your friend Sandeep, provided directions by noting the station pickup, and suggested evening activities like visiting the park and watching a movie. However, the task specifically asked how the relative would get the keys to enter the house. Your response mentions that Sandeep will pick her up and stay with her, but it does not explicitly state how she gains access to your home (e.g., 'I have left a spare key under the mat' or 'Sandeep has a copy'). This is a minor omission regarding the specific instructions provided in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into three paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your narrative. You use some cohesive devices such as 'As your train is departing' and 'but you do not need to worry' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'I will' to start sentences. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the connection between the morning arrival and the evening plans could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the greeting, the logistics, and the evening plans.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'over the moon' and 'stone's throw' are used naturally and appropriately for the informal tone of a letter to a family member. There are no significant errors in word choice that impede communication. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate more precise adjectives or varied verbs to describe your plans, rather than relying on simple structures like 'I have made lots of plans' or 'I have some plans'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are some grammatical slips. For example, 'When you told me that you were coming to me. I felt over the moon' contains a sentence fragment. Additionally, 'As your train is departing in the morning at that time' is slightly awkward in phrasing. There are also minor punctuation errors, such as the missing comma after 'Sandeep' in 'Sandeep and you can have breakfast'. Despite these, your control of grammar is generally good and does not hinder the reader's understanding.
