Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Zarana,
I am truly excited to meet you inperson. I am writing to inform you that I will not be able to pick you up from railway station and due to my work commitments I won't be home until the evening.
Once you reach to my apartment I want you to go to flat no 205 and ask for Mr. Shruti I hand overed my apartment's spare keys to her. After collecting keys make your self comfortable in my home. You can find some food and refreshments in the fridge.
To make your arrival smoother I have already booked a cab for you to take you from station to my home. I will be texting my address as well.
I will be at home around 5 PM in the evening. I have already planned how we are going spend our evening. Firstly, I will take you to the one of my favourite coffee shop, trust me you are going to love it. After enjoying our warm cup of coffee will be visiting the Should Store to do some shopping as their T shirt collection is pretty cool.
Can't wait to create beautiful memories with you.
With love,
Mansi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explained the key arrangement involving your neighbor, provided information about the cab service for transport, and outlined your evening plans. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member, maintaining a friendly and personal style throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the situation described. To reach a higher band, ensure that all instructions are followed with complete precision; for instance, you mentioned you would text the address, but you could have briefly included it in the letter to make the information more complete for the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the visit, which makes the information easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Once you reach' and 'After collecting keys'. However, the transition between some sentences could be smoother. For example, the jump from discussing the cab to mentioning the address could be better linked. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics, and the overall structure is coherent and easy to navigate for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using natural expressions like 'work commitments', 'make yourself comfortable', and 'create beautiful memories'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'I hand overed' (should be 'I handed over') and 'the Should Store' (likely a typo). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating a few more sophisticated or precise collocations would elevate the response. The tone is consistently warm and appropriate for the context of writing to a family member.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'inperson' (in person), 'reach to my apartment' (reach my apartment), and 'I hand overed' (I handed over). Additionally, there are some missing articles and punctuation slips, such as 'from railway station' (from the railway station). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout. To improve, focus on verb tense consistency and the correct use of prepositions and articles.
