Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: explaining the key arrangements, providing directions from the station, and suggesting evening activities. However, the response is repetitive, as you essentially wrote the same message twice. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a family member, though the content is somewhat underdeveloped. To improve, ensure you provide more specific details, such as the name of the street or a specific landmark, to make the instructions more helpful. The repetition of the entire text significantly impacts the quality of the response, as it suggests a lack of planning and editing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter lacks a clear structure. The most significant issue is the repetition of the entire body of the text, which creates confusion and disrupts the flow of information. There is a lack of logical paragraphing, and the use of cohesive devices is very limited. Phrases like 'After that' and 'And from' are used, but they are often placed awkwardly. To improve, you should organize your ideas into distinct paragraphs—one for each bullet point—and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences smoothly. Avoid repeating information, as this makes the letter difficult to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive. While you successfully convey the main message, the range of words is limited. For example, you use 'come' and 'home' repeatedly throughout the text. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'guide his or her with my home address' and 'I can't afford my office', which do not accurately express your intended meaning. To reach a higher band, try to use more precise vocabulary related to travel and hospitality, such as 'instructions', 'directions', 'accommodate', or 'unwind'. Focus on using words that are natural in the context of a personal letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including issues with sentence structure, punctuation, and verb tense. For instance, 'As you are coming but I won’t be home' is a fragment, and 'I gave my home keys to my neighbour' lacks proper punctuation. You also struggle with subject-verb agreement and word order, such as 'thanks to understand my situation' instead of 'thanks for understanding'. The repetition of the text also means that the same errors appear twice. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofread your work to correct simple punctuation and capitalization errors.
