explain arrangements you have made for them to have keys and get into the house
tell your relative how to get from the train station to your house
say when you will be home and suggest what you could do together that evening
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Aman,
I hope you're doing well. I am really excited to meet you after so long. Unfortunately, due to some prior work commitments, I will not be abled to pick you up from the train station .Therefore, I am writing to inform you about some details when you reach at the station.
I will leave the spare key at the reception of the building and let the management know about your arrival details. As soon as you reach there, just collect the keys and head to the flat number 34 at second floor. I have requested them to send someone along with you to avoid any confusion and discomfort. You can easily enter the house just by using the key.
It will be easy for you to use the mobile application; uber to reach home. After leaving the train station, get to the nearest parking lot and enter my home address. The uber driver will drop you off right at the front of my building's gate.
I will definitely reach home by 5 pm. After that, we will go for shopping in the nearest shopping mall and enjoy dinner at my favourite restaurant. I would be a great fun to spend time together.
Again apologies for not picking you up myself. Hope to see you soon.
Warm wishes,
Pawan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You clearly explained the key arrangements, provided specific instructions for the train station to your home, and outlined your evening plans. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member, being friendly and informative. The ideas are well-developed, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. You have successfully covered all requirements of the prompt, ensuring the reader knows exactly what to do upon arrival and what to expect later in the day.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the instructions. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the arrival logistics to the transport instructions and finally to the evening plans. You use cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'As soon as', and 'After that' to link your ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics. The flow of information is natural, and the reader can easily follow the sequence of events you have described.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for this task. Phrases like 'prior work commitments', 'avoid any confusion', and 'discomfort' are used accurately. While the vocabulary is generally effective, there are minor issues with word choice, such as 'reach at the station' (should be 'reach the station') and 'It would be a great fun' (should be 'It would be great fun'). Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and naturally throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most of your sentences are error-free and easy to understand. However, there are a few grammatical slips, such as 'I will not be abled to' (should be 'able to') and 'at second floor' (should be 'on the second floor'). These errors are minor and do not impede communication. Your control over punctuation and sentence structure is generally good, and the overall grammatical accuracy is high enough to support clear communication.
