Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Jagdeep,
I hope you are doing well. I am extremely excited since you are having been to me at my home.
I just want to let you know that when you reach at train station I won't be home because I have some important things need to be completed. I already make lot of arrangements for you. I tell me neighbor about you that my husband is coming from another city. I would give home keys to them. You just require to ring her door bell and tell your name to them then they will give you home keys.
After reaching at train station you should need to exit via bus routes. After that take 319 bus from Scott road station to Newton Exchange at Bay 4. When you board the bus press the stop button at 99 Avenue at Southbound just behind at this stop you will see 121 street go straight and then take second right at corner you will see my neighbors house.
I can't wait to meet you. I would be at home around at 6:30 PM . Before coming my home , fresh yourself and we will visit a restaurant for having dinner together.
I'm sure we'll have a great evening together. See you soon Love .
Yours Lovingly wife
Anjali

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: explaining the key arrangements, providing directions from the station, and suggesting evening plans. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited by grammatical confusion, particularly in the directions section, which makes the instructions slightly difficult to follow. To improve, ensure that your explanations are clear and logical so that the reader can easily understand the steps required. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'After that', 'When you board', and 'After reaching', which help the reader follow the sequence of events. However, the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical, and the referencing (e.g., 'them' referring to the neighbor) is occasionally ambiguous. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that pronouns clearly refer back to the intended nouns to improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, using phrases like 'extremely excited', 'important things', and 'make lot of arrangements'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'you are having been to me' (instead of 'you are coming to visit me') and 'fresh yourself' (instead of 'freshen up'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a need for more precise vocabulary usage. Focusing on common collocations and phrasal verbs will help you express your ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'when you reach at train station' (unnecessary preposition), 'I already make lot of arrangements' (tense error), and 'I tell me neighbor' (pronoun error). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of prepositions. Proofreading your work for these common slips will significantly enhance your accuracy.
