explain arrangements you have made for them to have keys and get into the house
tell your relative how to get from the train station to your house

Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mother,
I am writing this letter to inform you that I have my internship the same morning that you are arriving to Toronto. So, I will not be home until the evening.
I have told my friend named Aditya to pick you up from the airport subway and he will be dropping you to my place. I have also given him my house keys that he will be handing in to you.
That being said, I usually also keep my spare keys under the front door mat if you ever need it.
Moreover, I have planned an amazing evening for the both of us. Once I reach back home at 5pm, I will quickly freshen up and I will take you to the famous shopping mall nearby. I have also booked our dinner reservation at the best fine dine restaurant in Toronto.
I am really excited to meet you and I hope you have a safe flight.
See you soon Mother!
Yours lovingly,
Sreedevi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt effectively. You explained the key arrangements, provided instructions for the journey from the station, and outlined your evening plans. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member. However, there is a slight inconsistency in the prompt details: the instructions mention the relative is arriving by train, but you refer to them arriving by flight and mention a subway. While this does not impede communication, ensure you align your response more closely with the provided task scenario in future tasks to demonstrate full attention to detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the request, which makes the information easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'That being said' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the mention of the friend picking her up and the spare key could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is coherent and easy to read throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'freshen up' and 'dinner reservation' are natural and appropriate. There are some minor issues with collocation, such as 'handing in to you' (handing over to you) and 'dropping you to my place' (dropping you off at my place). While these errors do not cause confusion, they slightly limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and refining your use of phrasal verbs would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'I have my internship the same morning that you are arriving to Toronto' (arriving in Toronto) and 'I usually also keep my spare keys' (I also usually keep). Punctuation is generally accurate, and your control over verb tenses is consistent. To reach a higher band, focus on reducing these small prepositional and word-order errors.
